Black turnip is far too rarely used, although it is a source of many vitamins and nutrients. In addition to cleansing and detoxifying, it can also help with ailments such as cough or anemia. Black turnip is a vegetable that should become one of the most important elements of a healthy diet.
Black turnip, as the name says, is characterized by a black skin. The tuber below it has a slightly spicy taste, so characteristic of radishes. It is not without reason that black turnip is also called black radish – just try it to see for yourself. This plant grows wild on the Mediterranean coast. Cultivated in Poland, it is harvested in late autumn, just before the first frost. Black turnip should not be missing from your winter menu, because it will contribute to maintaining immunity and health throughout this frosty period.
Why is black radish a super healthy addition to dinner?
The previously mentioned sulfur compounds present in turnips are a method for improving the condition of the skin, because they increase its blood supply, and improve digestion, because they support the secretion of bile, digestive juices and the production of saliva. Another advantage of this type of radish is phytoncides, which are distinguished by their bactericidal effect. In addition, we will find in it such valuable nutrients as:

- Anthocyanins – plant pigments that have a healing effect on the human body,
- Phytosterols – reduce the level of total cholesterol and LDL fraction,

Black radish has expectorant effect, so it helps with coughing, and thanks to the iron content it prevents anemia. Its extract is used in many medicines, including preparations for slimming, as well as for liver ailments. It is added to many popular medicines because it has antibacterial and cholagogic properties.
This plant will also help with neuralgia and ailments related to roots – then it is good to rub the aching places black turnip juice. What’s more, it has a cleansing and diuretic effect on the body, increases its resistance to infections, and improves the functioning of joints thanks to the presence of sulfur compounds.
It is also recommended for damaged, dull and lifeless hair and nails. It strengthens their bulbs, eliminates oiliness and dandruff. It is often added to shampoos and conditioners. It also has a positive effect on nails, acne skin and blackheads, brightens the skin and has anti-seborrhoeic properties.
Black turnip should not be consumed by people who suffer from heart failure, kidney failure, small intestine catarrh or gastric hyperacidity.
