Puncture is a medical procedure that is extremely helpful in the process of diagnosing various diseases, and this allows you to establish a treatment and treatment plan for the patient. During the puncture procedure, tissue material is collected for examination or medicinal preparations are applied directly to specific areas of the body. Punctures of the knee joints and spine are most often performed, but punctures of the ovaries and sinuses are also not uncommon.
Generally speaking, the procedure involves making a puncture through an insertion needles to a well-defined area. A piece of tissue or accumulated fluid can be removed in this way. Very often, areas of the body are freed from excess fluid produced, and drugs are administered that quickly reach the places affected by the disease. Punctures are performed in different areas of the body, but are always strictly defined indications to perform such a procedure.
Knee puncture
Diseases of the knee joints affect many people, regardless of age. Probably because knee puncture is one of the most frequently performed types of this test. The treatment is an insertion needles up to the joint capsule, which allows for the collection or even removal of excess synovial fluid and for the administration of drugs directly into the joint. This procedure often relieves the patient of a very distressing pain that effectively impedes normal walking. The same is done punctures other joints, but it is the knee joints that most often undergo such a procedure.
The procedure itself is extremely simple. Ideally, the patient should lie down on his back and straighten his legs at the knee joints. Then the injection site is disinfected to prevent the penetration of undesirable microbes into the joint, and then the needle. Although such a procedure is often performed without anesthesia, local anesthesia is sometimes used.
Joint puncture is carried out, for example, to find gout. This examination is also necessary in order to diagnose other inflammatory conditions and administer drugs, as well as in the ongoing degenerative processes, because it enables the administration of preparations that nourish the articular cartilage.
Sinus puncture
This is a procedure that is performed in ENT offices, and a number of them are performed here puncture constantly growing. People suffering from persistent sinusitis undergo this procedure to remove the purulent discharge that accumulates in the sinuses, which causes great pain.
The procedure is painful and is performed under local anesthesia, and in some cases even under general anesthesia. Thanks sinus puncture the doctor can clean these spaces and introduce mucolytic drugs that will reduce swelling, constrict vessels and, most importantly, open the sinus openings. Sinus puncture enables patients to recover much faster.
Spine puncture
This is one of the most difficult types of research, but spine puncture gives answers to many questions. So it allows you to diagnose or rule out many serious diseases. It also enables the implementation of well-chosen treatment.
It is brought in during the procedure needle into the intervertebral space. The needle has a special cap that unlocks when needle it will be in the desired position, which confirms that it has arrived where it needs to be. Spine puncture is usually performed to collect the cerebrospinal fluid and make an appropriate diagnosis based on its composition. Spine puncture is performed under anesthesia due to the painfulness of the procedure and the fact that the patient should maintain a uniform position during insertion needles to the intervertebral spaces.
Ovarian puncture
It is a typically therapeutic procedure and most often used in the in vitro fertilization procedure. Ovarian puncture is performed under total anesthesia and on an empty stomach. The procedure is performed under strict ultrasound control. For this purpose, an ultrasound head is used, which must be equipped with puncture needle. In this way, the oocytes needed for the subsequent in vitro fertilization are harvested.
Kidney puncture
An indication to be carried out kidney puncture previously detected cysts. Although they do not give any symptoms at first, you should find out what they hide. Cysts, when they reach larger sizes, can cause enormous pains that are felt in the lumbar area, and they are too cause recurring or even continuous urinary tract infections. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia.
