Psychological readiness of a child for school: how to determine the level, training
Before entering school, the kid attends preparatory classes, learns letters and numbers in kindergarten. This is great, but the psychological readiness of a child for school is determined not only by knowledge. Parents should help him prepare for a new stage of life.
What is readiness for school, and on the development of what qualities does it depend
Before going to school, the child forms his own positive opinion about schooling. He wants to get new knowledge, to become an adult.
Preparedness for school life is determined by three criteria:
- desire to learn;
- level of intelligence;
- self-control.
At first, you can interest the kid with a beautiful school uniform, a portfolio, bright notebooks. But in order for joy not to turn into disappointment, the desire to study at school is important.
How to help your baby get ready
Parents help their child get ready for school. Letters and numbers are taught with him. But, in addition to reading, writing and counting, you need to prepare for school life psychologically. To do this, it is enough to tell how children are taught in the classroom, to form a positive image of the teacher and the children’s team.
Adaptation is easier if the baby goes to grade 1 with children from his kindergarten.
A positive peer attitude has a good effect on a child. The teacher should also be an authority for him that he wants to imitate. This will help the child to better understand the material in the first grade, and to find a common language with the teacher.
How to determine readiness
Parents can check their child’s readiness for school during a home conversation. At the same time, you cannot press and impose your opinion. Have your toddler draw a school building or look at a picture book on the subject. At this time, it will be appropriate to ask whether he wants to go to school or if he is better off in kindergarten. There are also special tests for this.
When a child enters school, the psychologist will reveal how his will is developed, the ability to complete the task according to the model. At home, you can find out how the child knows how to follow the rules by playing or giving simple tasks.
A trained preschooler knows how to redraw a drawing from a sample, easily generalizes, classifies, highlights the signs of objects, finds patterns. By the end of preschool age, the child should develop special rules for communicating with adults and peers, adequate self-esteem, not too high or low.
You can find out the child’s opinion about the future enrollment in school by talking to him. The kid should want to learn, have a well-developed will and thinking, and the task of the parents is to help him in everything.
