The plots of children’s fairy tales, with their dramatic and sometimes violent conflicts, are very useful material for developing a child’s social skills. Canadian psychologists from the University of Manitoba and the University of Simon Fraser found out that if mothers of 3-5-year-old children not only name the emotions of fairy-tale characters in pictures, but also discuss the actions of characters and conflict situations with the child, then such preschoolers demonstrate higher social intelligence, that is, the ability to understand the values of people around them by their behavior and predict it.
