Gray zone of pseudo disinfection. “We meet fluids of unknown origin everywhere”

The Supreme Chamber of Nurses and Midwives, together with producers of disinfectants, conducts a social and educational campaign under the slogan “Disinfection, yes, but not just anyhow”. “This action is the result of observation of gross irregularities in ensuring disinfection in almost all Polish public places”.

– Nurses and midwives – aware of the role played by hand hygiene and disinfection in stopping the chain of infections – drew attention to the problem of disinfectants made available in public spaces, which may be ineffective and sometimes harmful to health – emphasizes Mariola Łodzińska, Vice President of the Supreme Council of Nurses and Midwives .

«Liquids of unknown origin, of low quality, poured into applicators after professional biocidal products, we can find everywhere. They create a gray pseudo-disinfection zone. Preparations with a disgusting smell and highly irritating to the skin, available in unlabeled packages, are commonplace in public spaces (…) we cannot be sure if we disinfect our hands with a safe and effective agent » – indicates the Chamber.

– Hands account for 2,5 percent. our body. It is a work tool for everyone, especially nurses and midwives, therefore the campaign “Disinfection yes, but not anyhow” is intended to sensitize Polish society to what we actually disinfect our hands with, what these means and whether they are properly described – emphasizes the vice-president.

“Antibacterial preparations do not work against viruses”

– For hand disinfection, use biocides, not antibacterials, because they work not only against bacteria, but also viruses and fungi, explains Mariola Łodzińska. – Antibacterial preparations absolutely do not work against viruses – he emphasizes.

The Supreme Chamber of Nurses and Midwives also reminds that disinfectants belong to the group of biocidal products. Their production and distribution must meet stringent regulatory requirements (as well as drugs and other medical devices). What preparation will provide us with effectiveness and safety?

– The disinfectant should not foam and smell like moonshine – says Mariola Łodzińska. – It should, however, contain from 60 percent. up to 75 percent alcohol. It’s a safe concentration that works against viruses.

The agent should be dermatologically tested and certified. – I would look at products of companies that are certified and contain information on the packaging that the preparation has been dermatologically tested. It is important that the agent does not sensitize and dry the skin, especially in winter, when it is prone to cracks, because then it can become a reservoir of pathogens – emphasizes the deputy head of the nurses and midwives’ self-government.

Soapy water is enough to wash your hands. What to remember?

The vice-president of NRPiP reminds that soap and water are enough for washing hands. Then they should be washed for 20-30 seconds – the inside and outside of the hand. When it is impossible to wash your hands or disinfect them, you should avoid touching your face – mouth, eyes, nose. These are the places through which pathogens penetrate the fastest. – How important it is to wash your hands can be proved by the fact that by 50 percent. the incidence of infectious diseases, such as influenza, has decreased – emphasizes Mariola Łodzińska.

For the care of hands damaged by inadequate disinfection, order BIO hand cream with beeswax and honey Propolia BeeYes, which moisturizes and regenerates the skin.

In order for the cosmetics to be better absorbed, it is worth massaging your hands with the long hand and nail brush made of DR2S BRISTA natural bristles – it is delicate and soft. If we want more effective care, and our skin is not sensitive, we can use slightly harder brushes made of agave fiber, eg BRISTA rectangular hand and nail brush or BRISTA oval agave brush for hands and nails.
