Prunes for a child: how to prepare a decoction? Video
The healing properties of prunes have been noticed for a long time. In folk medicine, it is used most often as a laxative. Decoction, infusion, mashed potatoes and even prune compote can get rid of constipation, but at the same time they do not irritate the stomach and intestines, so they are sometimes recommended even for babies.
Broth for the little ones
A prune laxative can be given to the baby as a decoction or tincture. For the broth take: – 20–25 dry plums; – 500 ml of water.
Plums must be pitted. They must be thoroughly washed, placed in a saucepan and filled with cold water. Place the saucepan on the burner, turn on medium heat and bring the broth to a boil. If the baby is okay with unsweetened drinks, it is better not to add sugar.
Place a lid on the saucepan. The broth should cool and infuse for about an hour. It is better to give it to a child suffering from constipation in the morning between feedings. The dose depends on age and how much the child is used to complementary foods. If this is the first additional food, ½ teaspoon will be sufficient the first time.
It is better to prepare a decoction for babies in filtered water.
Tincture – fast and effective
A newborn can also take a prune tincture. You will need: – 1 glass of water; – 10 dry plums.
Rinse the fruits thoroughly, preferably with boiled water. Put them in a saucepan and pour boiling water over them, then cover it all with a lid and leave to infuse.
The best option is to steam the plums in the evening, then the tincture will be ready by morning. Strain it through a wide, sterile bandage. As in the first case, the dose depends on age and on the habit of new foods. An infant who is not yet a month old may be content with even 1/3 teaspoon. If constipation persists, next time give ½ spoon of tincture.
Compote from prunes and dried apricots can also serve as a laxative. But you can give it if the baby is already consistently receiving complementary foods and already has one of these products in his diet.
If your child already eats fruit baby food from a spoon, you can try making prune puree for him. Start preparing it by processing dried fruits. Rinse prunes (pitted) in the evening, steam with boiling water for a couple of minutes, and then transfer to a bowl, cover with warm water and leave overnight. Take out the plums, put them in a saucepan, pour a little water (about 1 glass to 10 plums), simmer until the fruits are as soft as they usually are in compote. After that, the peel is very easy to peel off.
Wipe the peeled plums through a sieve or pass through a meat grinder. For the first time, give your baby 1 spoonful of puree and see if the new product will cause an allergic reaction. If everything is in order, the portion can be increased. By the way, it is not at all necessary to use such puree as a medicine. This is just a delicious and healthy dish made with fresh ingredients.
