Dry air and winter go hand in hand. Dryness can not only affect your skin and hair, it can also harm plants, wooden floors and furniture. It also leads to static electricity. Here are some ways to deal with dry air in the fall / winter period.
Seal windows and doors
Cold air can penetrate through cracks and distortions in windows and doors. This lowers the temperature in the rooms. Therefore, the heating system has to work harder. As a result, the air in the rooms becomes more and more dry, which is easily felt by our body. Before winter, do a basic home inspection to identify problem areas. If necessary, apply insulation measures to prevent further heat loss.

Control the level of humidity
Basically the lower the outdoor temperature, the lower the humidity in the room. It should be at the level of 40-60%. It is worth monitoring it on an ongoing basis. You will need a humidity meter or a hygrometer. However, if you cannot afford this device, watch out for typical signs of extreme humidity.
- Too low: There is condensation or leaks on windows, walls or ceilings.
- Too high: static electricity increases, wooden structures begin to crack or warp.
Turn on the air purifier
If you’ve already done seasonal housework by sealing windows and doors, you’ll increase energy efficiency and lower your heating bills at the same time. However, there is a downside. Indoor air pollutants get trapped in the walls of your home.
Eliminate them easily by turning on the air purifier. You can choose a stationary or portable model. All you have to do is plug it into the socket.

Keep your bathroom door open while showering or bathing
You may be in the habit of closing the bathroom door and turning on the fan when showering or bathing. However, in the fall / winter period, leave the door open and turn off the fan. The water vapor allows the moisture to spread throughout the house. Ultimately, it will raise the level of humidity. Also, do not close the door immediately after leaving the bathroom.
Cook on the stove
In winter, limit the use of the oven. However, you can safely cook on the stove. Whether you are making tea or heating a frozen dish, do it on the stove, not in the microwave.
In the dry months, any random wetness can help you feel more comfortable at home – for free and with little effort.
Decorate the interior with living plants
They not only improve air quality, but also our mood. It is very popular Boston fern. It is reliable and easy to care for. It looks best in a hanging basket. Requires frequent sprinkling and watering. Then it will grow healthily. It will repay you by improving the humidity in the room. He likes medium insolation the most.
Areka palm is a great air purifier and humidifier. It does not require complicated care. Do not put it in a sunny place. Give her plenty of water and trim from time to time.
Herbaceous plant is one of the most difficult houseplants. It is distinguished by long leaves and delicate white flowers. This perennial also has a high transpiration rate. Thanks to this, it helps to maintain air humidity.
