A sore throat can “get” anyone. This is the type of disease that most often appears during the spring and winter solstices, when the body’s immunity is the lowest and bacteria and viruses are “crazy” outside. It is better to start treating a sore throat as soon as the first symptoms appear, because the disease is exacerbated quickly.
How to treat sore throat and pharyngitis at home? 8 ways!
- First of all, it is worth going to the pharmacy and buying painkillers available there. They will help temporarily soothe the pain, and the anti-inflammatory substances contained in them will certainly cope with the treatment of sore throat. In the pharmacy you will find special gargles, ordinary painkillers in the form of tablets and popular lozenges that bring quick relief in the disease.
- A home remedy that has long been known to treat hoarseness, which occurs with almost every sore throat, is the use of boiled potato compresses. Boil the potatoes, mash them hot and wrap them in a paper towel. Such a compress is applied to the sore throat, and the whole thing is still tightly wrapped with a scarf. We keep it on the skin until it cools down.
- The throat can also be warmed using warming compresses available in pharmacies or prepared at home. It can be a warm hot water bottle, and if we don’t have one, we can use warm water compresses in a bag. Warming the throat reduces pain and speeds up its healing.
- Take care of proper air humidity in places where you stay – especially at home and at work. Dry air promotes drying of the mucous membranes, and this again promotes frequent infections and sore throats.
- Ventilate the rooms you are in often for a few minutes. During this time, you can leave the house or go to another room so as not to stay “in a draft”. However, this will have a great effect on the home air, increase its humidity and allow you to breathe easier.
- With a sore throat, try to drink a lot of warm drinks, these can be herbal infusions or plain tea. Limit the consumption of cold and carbonated drinks.
- Prepare homemade gargles for sore throats from commonly available herbs. Thyme, sage and chamomile are recommended for treating sore throats. They have an anti-inflammatory effect, and also quickly soothe pain and heal swelling of the mucous membrane. Such rinses can be performed up to several times a day. The liquid should be at most body temperature (not too hot so as not to burn yourself).
- You can also prepare a soda rinse. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling properties. Dissolve a tablespoon of soda in half a glass of warm water, and then rinse your throat with the prepared medicine for about 2-3 minutes. The procedure is repeated about three times a day.
