Proven: 5 ways to remove rust stains from clothes
And one of them is one hundred percent – for non-delicate fabrics.
– This is the end! – I bitterly burst into tears over my husband’s three white shirts, my expensive white jeans and a white T-shirt.
I started washing after 11 am: I decided to follow the advice of my neighbor, who turns on the washing machine only after the “night” mode starts on the two-tariff counter. I did not wait for the end of the wash, I fell asleep. In the morning I ran around, pulled out clean linen only by the middle of the day. And already on the dryer I noticed that all things were stained with rust. Suddenly the rivets on the jeans gave a rusty leak. As a result, everything that was in the typewriter became “freckled”.
Bleach
In hopes of fixing things quickly, I smeared the spots with the famous bleach in pink bottles. Then she plopped a double dose into the washing machine and ran the clothes on fast mode. The technique squeaked that it was finished, my heart was pounding, but the effect of a horse dose of bleach was weak. Only a few points deigned to disappear.
I rubbed it over with a special Finnish soap, which, according to my mother, will wash everything, even a bad reputation. I don’t know about the reputation, but the rust and my things are already almost akin.
Toothpaste / powder
The internet brought me advice to rub the stains with whitening toothpaste or tooth powder. For the operation, a disposable toothbrush I once brought from the hotel came in handy. I didn’t skimp on pasta, rubbed good. When branded jeans and equally expensive shirts are on the line, you will not regret anything.
Time was counting down the imminent arrival of my husband from work, I frantically rubbed my “freckles” with a toothbrush. Pills had already begun to form on the shirts, and the traitorous spots were becoming a little lighter, but they did not want to disappear completely.
Lemon / citric acid
In the same World Wide Web, I found a recommendation to rub the affected areas with fresh lemon. Lemon, they say, is certain death for stains. To be sure, the slice was offered to be crushed a little, wrapped in gauze, put on a rust stain and heated with an iron. These hot compresses reduced the freckles on two shirts, but it took three juicy lemons to do it. Not that expensive, citric acid can also be used, but very labor intensive. With a T-shirt, jeans and another shirt, the lemon still did not cope.
Vinegar and salt
I was already ready to go to the store for whiteness and “cook” all the spoiled clothes in the old grandmother’s way. If I don’t, I’ll throw it out and go shopping for a therapeutic effect and as needed. But the seller in the household chemicals department advised me to try the vinegar and salt gruel, they say, so all the stains came off her jeans.
I bought a pack of salt and a bottle of ordinary vinegar, spread the gruel, rubbed the stains with it. The smell was disgusting, fingers burned even through gloves. A few more rusty marks were gone. Only jeans remained “freckled”.
Toilet bowl cleaner
The eyes in the bathroom fell on the cleaner, where it was written in black and white, well, blue and yellow: “Dissolves rust without a trace.” Was not: I grabbed a bottle and poured jeans almost completely. Thanks to the fragrances from the jeans, a pleasant aroma emanated, after about 3 minutes I sent them to the washing machine for rinsing. And the miracle finally happened! The jeans have become snow-white, no “freckles”, even the wrinkles on the lower part of the legs have evaporated. Here he is – the unequivocal leader among all rust remedies. But for delicate fabrics, I would not dare to use it. Perhaps he will eat the rust along with the thing.
