Protect your child from toxic products

Hygiene rules at home

Home fragrances: banish them

Candles, incense, sprays and other indoor air fresheners are filled with toxic substances. They can cause allergies and respiratory problems, and their use is strongly discouraged, especially in infants and pregnant women. So to drive away bad smells, a single watchword: ventilate! It is also the only remedy to evacuate the chemicals that saturate the indoor air. Because according to the latest studies, the air breathed in homes, offices and even nurseries is even more polluted than that outside. It is therefore necessary to ventilate each room every day, for at least 10 minutes. After a cleaning or DIY session, even topo. All this while always keeping in mind the safety rules: never leave a child unattended when a window is open, and do not place furniture below it, allowing him to easily access it.

Cleaning products: play the “natural” card

The chemicals used in household products can cause poisoning, burns, allergies or respiratory problems. They should therefore be used with caution (as little as possible and without mixing them together) and stored out of the reach of children. During and after their use, ventilate very widely. Pregnant women and parents of small children are advised to replace them with more natural products, such as baking soda or white vinegar for their detergent effect, or black soap for washing clothes. Eco-labeled products (washing powders, cleaners, detergents, etc.) are also found in supermarkets, which guarantee the absence of dangerous ingredients and a reduced impact on the environment.

New furniture: ventilate as much as possible

New furniture is full of dangerous products: glues, varnishes and paints are all substances that future mothers and newborns must flee. And their fumes, such as those from the formaldehydes that make up chipboard, can persist for several months! It is therefore better to avoid remodeling the baby’s room at the last moment, but rather in the second trimester of pregnancy. During storage, assembly and the days following installation, it will be necessary to ventilate intensively. If you want to bet on a safe bet, opt for untreated raw wood, which unfortunately costs more. It can then be varnished or painted by you with non-emissive products, which are more and more easily found in DIY stores. Finally, some brands offer furniture free from harmful substances.

Depolluting plants: your new allies

Against the many chemical emanations, but also against electromagnetic waves, depolluting plants can help you clean up your home. How? ‘Or’ What ? Thanks to bio-purification. In the case of plants, they absorb pollutants from the air, then store them in their cells or transform them. In exchange, they reject oxygen and humidify the air. A purification that has been proven in numerous studies. Thus, gerberas, dwarf palms or even Boston ferns will fight against formaldehydes (contained in paints, insulators, glues, chipboard, wallpapers, resins, etc.), bamboo palms will absorb benzene (perfumes, candles, DIY products , plastics, etc.), rhapis will be effective against ammonia (household products, etc.) and cacti against electromagnetic waves (television, computers, electrical appliances, etc.). Note: all these plants are safe for children, except the cactus, which stings and must be installed away from curious children. Finally, limit the use of gardening products, especially if you are pregnant or have a toddler, and treat your plants outdoors as much as possible.
