Protect Excel workbooks

This example will teach you how to protect workbook and window structure in Excel.

  Structure

If the workbook structure is protected, users will not be able to insert, delete, rename, move, copy, hide, or show sheets.

  1. Open the book.
  2. On the Advanced tab Review (Review) click Protect Workbook (Protect the book).
  3. Check the box next to Structure (Structure), enter the password and press OK.Protect Excel workbooks

Users will no longer be able to insert, delete, rename, move, copy, hide or show worksheets.

Windows

If you protect book windows, users will not be able to move, close, or resize them.

  1. Open a document.
  2. On the Advanced tab Review (Review) click Protect Workbook (Protect the book).Protect Excel workbooks
  3. Check the box next to Windows (Windows), enter the password and press OK.Protect Excel workbooks

Users will no longer be able to move, close, and resize windows.

To unprotect a book, click on Protect Workbook (Remove book protection) and enter the password.
