Proscar is a drug intended for men. It is used to overcome a slight enlargement of the prostate gland, improve urine flow and reduce the symptoms associated with prostatic hyperplasia.
The drug is also used as a form of prophylaxis against urinary retention. Drug treatment usually lasts about 6 weeks.

Proscar – indications
The drug is used when the patient suffers from a slight enlargement of the prostate gland. Proscar is designed to:
- alleviate the symptoms of prostatic hyperplasia,
- reduce the risk of acute urinary retention,
- eliminate the need for a surgical operation (transurethral resection of the gland or prostatectomy).
Proscar – contraindications
Proscar is used by men who have problems with an enlarged prostate gland. In the absence of problems with prostatic hyperplasia, the drug should not be used.
Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients is a contraindication to the use of the drug.
It should also not be given to children or women, especially pregnant women.

Proscar – dosage
The dosage is determined individually by the doctor. It should be adapted to the patient’s state of health.
It is important that you have an examination before starting Proscar treatment to exclude the presence of prostate cancer. They should be performed before starting pharmacological treatment, because the drug contains finasteride.
The substance – finasteride – reduces the concentration of PSA, so when the test is performed after using Proscar, the test results will not be the actual state of the patient’s health.
In order to avoid the appearance of side effects, follow the doctor’s instructions and do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

Proscar – directions for use
Before starting to take the drug, check the expiry date. An expired drug should not be taken.
Store the drug in a tightly closed container, at room temperature, away from excessive UV radiation and out of the reach of children.
The drug is prescribed for specific medical conditions. Therefore, it is forbidden to share the drug with other people, especially to combat other ailments.

Proscar and pregnancy
The use of Proscar is prohibited during pregnancy. Importantly, women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not handle any broken or crushed Proscar tablets. This is because the drug can be absorbed through the skin. Any absorption will pose a risk to the male fetus.
In addition, the man who is taking the drug should not allow the woman to come into contact with semen. Therefore, it is recommended to use a condom during treatment with Proscar. The drug may be in the semen and therefore should not enter the body of the woman, baby or fetus.
