Proper Twelve

Whiskey Proper Twelve was presented to the public in 2018. So far, the drink can only be purchased in England, Ireland, the USA, but it is known almost all over the world. And the point is not in the taste of whiskey, but in the fact that the company that produces the drink is owned by the infamous boxer and mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor.

Historical information

Conor McGregor was born in 1988 in a working class suburb of Crumlin, Dublin. A lot of time was spent with the boy by his maternal grandfather, Christopher Moore, whom the whole neighborhood simply called Jakes. According to Conor’s memoirs, his grandfather “loved whiskey more than breakfast” and was a frequenter of many pubs. Mr. Moore taught his grandson to be well versed in whiskey and instilled many life principles, but he did not teach good manners, and this gap has not yet been filled.

Parents predicted Conor a career as a plumber, but he had his own plans for this. At 17, he won the Dublin MMA Championship. By the age of 20, McGregor had already become a professional fighter and a rising MMA star. He went to battle to the favorite song Hypnotize by the American hip-hop artist Notorious BIG. For this, the fans nicknamed the young athlete Notorious, which means “notorious” or “notorious” in English. Conor tried to justify his nickname at crazy fan parties.

But in 2008, in one of the Dublin clubs, McGregor met a young secretary Dee Devlin, who became his girlfriend, and later his wife and guardian angel. For the sake of Conor, she quit her job and began to accompany him on trips. Even the beloved woman could not correct the athlete’s manners, but she kept him from major nonsense, monitored nutrition, and helped develop training programs.

McGregor’s subsequent sports career was a series of victories, occasionally punctuated by defeats. In 2015, he won the UFC title twice: in lightweight and featherweight. The unusual style of the athlete is that he combines the techniques of boxing, taekwondo, capoeira, karate, kickboxing and jiu-jitsu.

Proper Twelve

McGregor is known for his antics. For example, in 2017, going on a promotional tour of his fight with boxer Floyd Mayweather, Conor wore a striped suit. The stripes were very thin, barely noticeable, and it took a long time for anyone to see that they formed into an obscene expression. Conor lost the fight, but the tailor got rich: he sold these three-piece suits to everyone for $ 6500.

Conor did not lose out either: although the fight was lost, various advertising campaigns brought the athlete about $ 100 million, which brought him to 111th place among the richest people in Ireland. The money came in handy: McGregor had long been going to create his own brand of whiskey.

The athlete founded the company Erie Born Spirits and entered into an agreement with the oldest distillery in Ireland, Bushmills. The creation of whiskey was led by the famous blender David Elder, who previously worked for Guinness. According to Mr. Elder, he made about 100 blends, from which McGregor chose the best. It was a 5-year-old whiskey, which the athlete, of course, called Notorious.

With a bottle of Notorious, an undepressed McGregor appeared before the public in August 2017 at a press conference dedicated to his loss in a duel with Mayweather. Taking a sip just from the neck, Conor cheerfully declared in front of the camera that his damn delicious whiskey would soon conquer the world.

The celebration did not last long: soon the management of the Carlow Brewing brewery, which produced Notorious beer, filed a lawsuit against the athlete. Conor did not argue, paid a 650 euro fine and decided to rename his whiskey.

The athlete’s grandfather called good whiskey right. And the postal code of Crumlin, where McGregor was born, is Dublin, 12. This is how the new name appeared – Proper Twelve (“Correct Twelfth”).

A year later, on September 18, 2018, at a press conference prior to the fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov, McGregor introduced the updated Proper Twelve whiskey. The Irishman even tried to treat the opponent and drink for his birthday, but Nurmagomedov does not drink alcohol at all.

McGregor lost to Nurmagomedov, but did not lose optimism. Conor continues to advertise his whiskey, claiming that in time he will surpass Jameson and Tullamore Dew, and that his grandfather will help him in this holy undertaking, who certainly looks at his grandson with tenderness from heaven.

The athlete sincerely admires the rescuers who perform their work in difficult conditions. $5 from the sale of each bottle of Proper Twelve will be donated to First Response Funds. McGregor plans for an annual charitable contribution of $1 million.

Characteristics of whiskey Proper 12

Proper Twelve is an amber-golden whiskey made from a triple-distilled blend of malt and rye distillates. The drink is aged for at least 3 years in bourbon barrels. A light honey-vanilla flavor smooths out the bitterness of oak and burnt caramel. The aftertaste is tart and spicy, with notes of ginger and apple peel.

“Proper Twelve” is bottled in dark green bottles. On the black background of the label, a bright image of a tiger in a crown stands out, the name is written in large white letters.
