What are the advantages of multiplying strawberries by dividing the bush
After 3-4 years of life, the strawberry bush begins to give a weak harvest. To breathe new life into it, you can carry out the division procedure.
Proper propagation of strawberries will allow you to get a bountiful harvest.
Its main advantages are:
- the procedure can be carried out in spring and autumn;
- first you can get a crop from a bush, and only then multiply it;
- seedlings after such reproduction take root in 90% of cases;
- a young bush begins to bear fruit abundantly the next year.

How to propagate strawberries by dividing bushes
For this propagation method, healthy, undamaged bushes are suitable, which have proven to be a good harvest. Division can be carried out in early spring or autumn after harvest.
Dig up the selected bush carefully and remove any dry leaves from it. Lightly shake off excess soil and place the bush in a container of water. In the water, it will begin to separate itself. Do not use force to avoid damaging the root horns. Double horns can be cut with a knife. Examine the roots carefully and remove any old and dry areas. If the bushes have peduncles, cut them off.
To help the seedlings grow stronger, plant them in separate pots, and not in a common container.
The diameter of a personal pot for a seedling is 8-10 cm. It needs to be filled 2/3 with earth mixed with peat in equal proportions. A seedling should be inserted into the center of the pot and carefully sprinkle it with earth. After that, you need to water the pot abundantly and put it in the greenhouse for 45 days. Take good care of your seedlings. Water them and mulch with peat or sawdust to conserve moisture.
As soon as the sprouts get stronger and acquire fleshy leaves, they can be planted in the ground. To do this, the land will need to be pre-dug up and fertilized with humus. If the soil at the planting site is too acidic, it can be neutralized with dolomite flour. Plant the shoots 40 cm apart. Water the young growth regularly. Cover it with spruce branches for the winter.
