Thanks to this psychological mechanism, we unconsciously attribute to other people properties of character, emotions, style of relationships that we cannot recognize in ourselves. This is how our psyche protects itself from unpleasant experiences, and this peculiarity of it manifests itself in the answers to the many-valued questions of projective tests. As a result, psychologists gain an understanding of the unique system of personal meanings and characteristics of each person who is tested.
