Proffee is a new type of coffee made famous by TikTok users. After the buttered bulletproof coffee that became a hit a few years ago, now is the time for the novelty – proffee. The first of October is the International Coffee Day, so we will take a closer look today what secrets the popular coffee proffee hides, about which the world of social media has gone mad.

What is proffee and how is it prepared?

Coffee “proffee” in English is made up of two words: protein and coffee. As the name suggests – it is coffee with the addition of protein supplement. The original recipe for proffee tells you to combine your favorite type of coffee in a large mug – the most common is espresso, along with ice cubes and a protein drink. Nothing easier!

Some enrich the basic version of proffee with flavor additives in the form of sugar, maple syrup, spices such as cinnamon. If someone does not count calories meticulously and is not afraid of fat, he can even add whipped cream to the top of the proffee cup. There are tons of ways to make this popular coffee on TikTok and Instagram. If you do not have a protein drink, you can prepare it at home by mixing your favorite protein supplement with milk or a plant-based drink.

I myself tried to develop my own recipe for proffee that would suit my palate best. Due to the time of the year we have now, I gave up on ice cubes and cook this coffee warm. Currently, while preparing proffee, I use instant coffee, which I pour into a blender. I add milk, protein powder and hot water to it. I blend and enjoy proffee 😊

Proffee smoothie

This is another variation on protein coffee, which also makes a sensation among fans of this new coffee trend. Proffee smoothie is a rich protein coffee with the addition of avocado, banana or a bit of roasted pumpkin. If someone likes a thick consistency of the drink, this option will be a great solution.

I prepare myself a proffee smoothie for breakfast, which includes coffee, hemp conditioner, milk, raw cocoa, half an avocado and a little boiled water. I put everything into the blender, sweeten it with stevia in drops and within 5 minutes I have prepared a nutritious breakfast substitute. You can also add chia seeds, or a tablespoon of peanut butter, or spices such as cinnamon or even powdered ginger.

As you can see, there can be many variations on proffee. It all depends on our creativity and taste preferences. You can go a step further and combine two coffee trends with each other, that is, add a protein cocktail to bulletproof coffee with butter. I just don’t know what to name this completely new coffee in this case – maybe bulletproof proffee 😉 Note that you can prepare this new coffee in such a way that all macronutrients are contained in one drink: protein, fats and carbohydrates.

When is it worth drinking proffee and who is this type of coffee for?

Proffee works best in the morning due to its stimulating caffeine content. You can drink it before training to increase physical endurance. Until 2004, caffeine was listed as a doping substance and its use in excess was prohibited. Caffeine has many amazing properties, including: reduce the formation of soreness after exhausting training, because it improves muscle regeneration. The addition of protein in proffee will intensify this effect and reduce body pain after intense training.

However, proffee is not only intended for people who play sports. If we want to lose body fat, we should ensure an adequate supply of protein in the diet. Some studies suggest that increasing the amount of protein on the menu lowers the hunger hormone ghrelin while stimulating appetite-suppressing hormones, which in the long run can lead to easier weight loss if the caloric deficit is kept negative.

Some people have trouble eating the right amount of protein each day. They are reluctant to eat meat or not eat it at all, while not caring about replacing it with other high-protein foods. This can lead to culinary cravings and reaching for high-calorie snacks. You feel hungry for a little something.

Numerous studies show that the addition of protein during breakfast stabilizes blood sugar levels, increases the feeling of satiety and reduces snacking during the day. So if you have a problem with getting the right amount of protein in your diet, you can reach for proffee and watch how your body reacts to this coffee.

Proffee is also a great meal replacement for people on the go, who do not have much time to prepare and eat a nutritious breakfast in the morning. Coffee with the addition of protein is easy to prepare and you can drink it much faster than wasting time chewing a sandwich or porridge. Some people also have little appetite in the morning and find it easier to drink than to stuff them with solids.

Protein coffee caused quite a stir in social media. I myself have benefited from the inspiration of this new coffee trend and I intend to drink proffee this fall, preparing it in various ways. I have already ordered a plant-based chocolate protein supplement and collagen, which you can see in the photo above. I will combine with different ingredients and consistency of the drink. Today I made a proffee smoothie with peanut butter, a square of dark chocolate and half a banana. It turned out quite tasty and nutritious. I haven’t tried the roasted pumpkin version yet, but there is room for catching up. Yes, I definitely buy this new way of making coffee and enter proffee on my menu.
