We still have to be patient, let’s spend the picnic outside, where the risk of virus transmission is the lowest – said Prof. Joanna Zajkowska from the University Teaching Hospital in Białystok.

– Although there is a downward trend, there are still many cases of coronavirus. There may be even more of them, because the data may be underestimated – she emphasized.

The Ministry of Health said today there are 13 new cases of coronavirus infection and 926 patients have died.

  1. Loosen the restrictions? The doctor has no illusions as to how this will end

– The high number of deaths is the result of previous infections, as deaths occur 2-3 weeks after infection. We can say that we are reaping the effect of the peak of the infection wave that is already behind us. I hope that the number of deaths will decrease – said prof. Zajkowska.

She added that there are no concerns about the lack of covid beds in hospitals. – The functioning of temporary hospitals ensures that we do not have to worry about the lack of places in wards or ventilators. However, the situation in hospitals is still difficult due to shortages of staff – she explained.

When it comes to lifting restrictions, according to the professor, they should be, but they should be done in stages.

– A picnic is ahead of us, people should feel that the restrictions are paying off. First of all, lifting the restrictions should concern lifting the requirement to wear masks for people staying outdoors, while maintaining a distance – she said.

  1. Hotels closed, but no places for a picnic. Doctor: we play shit

She reminded that the risk of infection is greatest in closed rooms. – So let’s give up social gatherings during the picnic, if there are people among us who have not vaccinated and let’s try to spend time outdoors – she advised.

She added that the situation should be analyzed regionally, with particular emphasis on the Śląskie Voivodeship, where the number of infections is the highest.

0 It is a voivodship with the highest density, where infections occur en masse, the risk of transmission is high, for example in the means of public transport. Where there are fewer infections, the restrictions can be relaxed to a greater extent – she emphasized.

The Ministry of Health will provide detailed guidelines.

Most of the restrictions currently in force due to the coronavirus epidemic have been extended to April 25, but nurseries and kindergartens have been opened on April 19. The hotels will be closed until May 3 inclusive.
