This is the last moment to get vaccinated before the upcoming fourth wave of COVID-19, infectious diseases specialist Prof. Miłosz Parczewski. He reminded that it takes several weeks for immunity to develop.
«The vaccination program has slowed down, it has not stopped, but it has slowed down considerably. It may turn out that we will have to pay for this slowdown in a moment with epidemiology » – said in an interview with PAP the chief doctor for COVID-19 at the Szczecin provincial hospital, Prof. Miłosz Parczewski.
He recalled that it takes several weeks for the development of immunity after vaccination as a result of the presence of antibodies.
“This is the last moment to get vaccinated for the upcoming fourth wave of coronavirus,” he continued.

He noted that if the unvaccinated people were to take the preparation soon, they will develop antibodies around October.
When asked about how to prepare for the upcoming flu and covid season, prof. Parczewski pointed out that, first of all, it should be checked whether everyone in the family is vaccinated – especially those over 60 years of age, who are most at risk of severe disease.
«There is no recommendation yet for a third dose of the vaccine. We support its use in health care professionals, people over 70 and people with immunodeficiency, perhaps it will be something to do in the fall »said the doctor.
He added that in the fall season “flu vaccinations will have to be discussed again”.
«There was hardly any flu last year and this year there is a risk of so-called a compensatory epidemic, i.e. an increase in the number of flu cases due to the fact that the population has lost some immunity »- pointed out prof. Parczewski.
