– We have a long weekend ahead of us and we know perfectly well that Poles will to a greater or lesser extent go on a picnic. In addition, from Monday, children went to school in most provinces in the country. We know from the experiences of the past months what it ended with. Of course, at this point, a much larger proportion of the population is immunized naturally through exposure to the virus or vaccination than was the case in January or September last year. – said prof. He pointed out that we will certainly record viral infections in Poland in the autumn. He explained that this would be related to the wave of regular catching colds.

– The question remains whether it will be an increase related to the SARS-CoV-2 virus due to the fact that we will not vaccinate a sufficient part of the society, or whether it will be an increase in cases of any etiology related to upper respiratory tract infections – said Prof. Flisiak.

He estimated that a lot would depend on the number of people vaccinated.

He also stressed that “nobody can guarantee that vaccinated people will not get COVID-19”. – Everything that happens in medicine is not 100 percent. The vaccine reduces the risk of reinfection, but it is 100 percent. does not eliminate – said prof. Flisiak.

He pointed out that so far medicine has managed to eliminate 100 percent. only smallpox.

– Viruses mutate, new ones, previously assigned to animals, also appear in the human environment, so sooner or later there will be another epidemic in some region of the world, but not necessarily on such a scale. We all have to accept this, each time we work on new vaccines – pointed out the president of the Polish Society of Epidemiologists and Doctors of Infectious Diseases.

When asked about the Indian variant of the coronavirus, Prof. Flisiak explained: – At the moment there is no indication that the current vaccines do not protect people against him. There is also no indication that it would be more invasive than the British. So if it is not more contagious, it means that it will not dominate it, ‘said the professor.
