We all remember how in the USSR, after sunburn, generously poured sour cream on the body or used kefir from the refrigerator to reduce pain. Do these foods really help with sunburn?

Chief Physician of the Moscow Scientific and Practical Center for Dermatovenereology and Cosmetology of the Moscow Department of Health

Olga Zhukova, chief physician of the Moscow Scientific and Practical Center for Dermatovenerology and Cosmetology of the Moscow Department of Health, said in an interview with RIA Novostithat such products should absolutely not be applied to the body if you have gone too far with tanning.

Kefir and sour cream are dairy products containing lactobacilli, sometimes other bacteria too. Kefir contains kefir fungus, these products can cause a bacterial skin infection. Sour cream contains a high percentage of fat. When fat is applied to the burn, it aggravates, that is, the burn intensifies, ”explained Olga Zhukova.

In the program “On the most important” on the TV channel “Russia 1” they also raised the issue of sunburn treatment. Dermatologist Vitaly Okhlopkov confirmed that the use of sour cream and kefir after sunburn is highly undesirable. These products cause only slight pain relief, but then dry on the skin, tightening it and increasing the discomfort.

Some people use sunflower oil for sunburn – this is also a mistake. The oil creates a film on the skin, a greenhouse effect is obtained, as a result, the damage to the skin increases, – said the specialist.

Elena Malysheva in the program “Living Healthy” told how to act correctly if you got a sunburn. First, you need to cool the skin with cool water, and then treat the area affected by the sun’s rays with a special cream with panthenol.

You cannot spread any products on yourself, ”Elena Malysheva noted.

But it is best to avoid intense tanning, especially for people with fair skin, and always use sunscreens with SPF.
