Prince, Mermaid and Birch – unusual baby names for boys and girls in Kuzbass

But the most popular are the usual Artyom, Daria and Mikhail.

Now you can hardly surprise anyone with the unusual name of a child – Elisha, Agrippina, Ustinya, Dobroslav will soon become the same familiar names as Svetlana, Sofia, Mikhail or Peter. But in the past year, several married couples still managed to impress the registry office employees. Parents from Kemerovo named their son Prince, and another couple named the baby Apollo.

Woman’s Day looked through large dictionaries of male names, but we could not find the name Prince. However, as employees of the registry office say, the name does not have to be recorded in dictionaries, parents have the right to name the child at their discretion. Some did so, so in Kuzbass kids are growing up who have almost no chance of meeting their namesake: Hermione, Rusalka, Chelintana-Santana, Minuta and Kuzbas.

Often the choice of parents falls on rare Greek, Jewish and Slavic names, such as Synclitia, Deborah, Maksalina, Magdalene, Versavia, Dionysus, Andrian and Helios, Vesta and Birch. Last year, the most unusual were Dobrynya, Ermak, Svyatomir, Svyatogor, Nestor, Dobroslav, Dobromir and Ustinya.

– When an adult is doing well inside, then, as a rule, he has no need to prove his originality to the world or to assert himself at the expense of children. He just lives and is happy, ” Olga Kryuchkova, a practicing psychologist, commented on Woman’s Day on the fashion for unusual names. – And when a person begins to feel a burning desire to shout out: “Look at me soon! I am very special! ”, You should think about it … What about his self-esteem? And with ambitions – are they healthy? Often the unusual name of the child is the very “cry”, the very “greater achievement” in life that such a parent makes. Also, the reason for unusual names can be prophetic motives, they say, what to call the ship – you call it Aphrodite or Cleopatra, and your daughter will grow up to be a beauty.

But German teacher Anna Gorelik believes that an unusual name is only beneficial not only for the child, but also for the teacher:

– Of course, an unusual name means increased attention, as well as to everything new. The main thing here is the attitude of the bearer of the name to his exclusivity. Children are sometimes violent and can tease a child with an unusual name, but the main thing is a positive attitude and friendliness. As a teacher, I have nothing against rare names, sometimes it’s even convenient: when there are five Sophias and six Ivanovs in the class, you start to rejoice that Elisha is only one, and you don’t need to figure out how to distinguish him from the others.

Despite the popularity of spectacular and unusual names, most often parents choose names familiar to the ear. So in 2015, Artem, Alexander, Dmitry, Ivan, Mikhail, Victoria, Daria, Valeria, Anastasia and Polina became popular names, cites statistics from the Civil Registry Office in the Kemerovo Region MediaKuzbass.
