What is the prewash mode in a washing machine? Many users come across this program, but not everyone knows how to use it and what it is for.
The preliminary program is now available in all automatic washing machines. It allows you to care for linen more efficiently, effectively get rid of dirt. In this article, you will learn how to properly use the function and select it on the panel.
What is the pre-wash for?
How to understand what it means and why pre-wash is needed? In order for the laundry to be washed with high quality, it is necessary to use not only the main program, but also the preliminary one.
Some users constantly erase things in fast mode. This is effective for lightly soiled items. But you can’t wash clothes with stains and severe pollution. Therefore, the manufacturer has provided “Prewash”. You can install it before the main programs:
Cotton;
Synthetics;
Gentle and Manual Mode;
Jeans;
dark things;
baby clothes;
Intensive mode.
The mode is not compatible with fast, express programs.
To clean the linen from contaminants, the following factors act:
гhot water;
хchemical constituents of detergents;
мmechanical impact.
The pre-treatment enhances the effect of these factors, since it is an analogue of soaking. At the same time, the result in the washing machine is more significant than with hand washing.
Without it, the machine will wash normally. If you do opt for an additional mode, be prepared for the fact that the cycle time will increase.

The prewash icon on all brands of washers (LG, BOSCH, Samsung) is the same. This is either the full name of the mode, as in the photo below, or this icon:
How long does the machine take to wash
Consider how the mode is performed in the washing machine and how long it lasts.
The pre-wash powder is poured into the compartment of the detergent drawer. In compartment I. The program is installed.
The machine collects a large amount of water, which during the cycle maintains a temperature of 30 degrees. Low temperature allows you to cope even with blood stains. If necessary, you can independently adjust and set a higher degree.
In the process, the powder is taken from the first compartment (I) for the preliminary mode, and the drum starts to rotate slowly. Depending on the SMA model, the process can take up to two hours.
At the end, the water is drained and a new one is taken in for the main wash.
Before starting the cycle, pour the powder into two compartments. From one, the machine will take the detergent for the preliminary mode, from the second – to continue washing in the set program.
Which products are suitable for this mode: washing powder or liquid gel? It is recommended to use the powder as the liquid will drain into the drum while the main program starts.
Great wash
To get the maximum effect, it is not enough just to throw things into the drum and select a mode. Stick to simple rules:
Sort things not only by color, but also by the degree of soiling.
Wash clothes at least once a week. Otherwise, the stains will stick so hard that it will be difficult to deal with them later.
Turn bedding, items with buttons inside out before putting them in the drum.
Decorated clothes and shoes are recommended to be washed in special bags.
Check clothing pockets.
An important factor is the correct selection of powder. Use the machine for the specific type of fabric.
To deal with old and difficult stains, do this:
First rub the stains with a special agent or laundry soap.
Load into the tank, pouring the powder into two compartments.
Turn on the prewash and the main wash (for cotton, synthetics).
From the drum you must get absolutely clean things. Do not forget that the selected washing temperature depends on the origin of the stains on the clothes.
How to enable the function
First fill in the powder, then set the normal wash by turning the selector. Now press the button with the “Prewash” icon.
What to do if the prewash does not work
Mode does not work at startup, and the indicator light blinks? Check if the hatch door is tightly closed. Also look to see if the pause button was pressed.
If everything is in order, try restarting the washer by disconnecting it from the power supply for 15-20 minutes.
