Prevention of osteochondrosis

Summer is the time for car travel. But before you get behind the wheel, you need to take care of your back health. Which, as you know, in a sitting position gets tired more than in a standing position. WDay.ru learned five ways to avoid the development of osteochondrosis.

Prevention of osteochondrosis

Cervical osteochondrosis

If you often have a headache, ringing in the ears, darkening in the eyes, visual disturbances, insomnia and pain in the shoulders and hands, most likely you have cervical osteochondrosis – the most common disease of car owners.

It can arise from constant improper driving, as well as from the so-called whiplash. Such things often happen during an accident, when, upon impact, the head is first thrown back sharply, and then forward (or in reverse order).

If you are diagnosed with cervical osteochondrosis or there are suspicions, try to:

  • do not throw your head back sharply;

  • do not turn it in the direction of pain;

  • do not tilt your head while lifting weights;

  • do not read or write while bending over;

  • do not sleep on a high pillow.

Lumbosacral osteochondrosis

This type of disease is often shown in films and commercials. When a person, bending down sharply, cannot straighten up. At such moments, there is a feeling that the lower back was pierced with a sharp knitting needle. The second option is lumbodynia, when the back pain is not sharp, but constant and aching.

Sit in the car correctly, and then there will be no problems with posture.

Five ways to maintain a beautiful posture

1. Sit correctly: lift your chin, look directly at the road. Lean forward slightly so that your knees are just above the level of your hips, with your lower back touching the seat (you can put a pillow).

2. Before a long journey, put on a wide belt made of dense material or a comfortable corset – it will support the lower back.

3. Sit in the car correctly: turn your back to the seat and slowly sit down, bending your knees (but not your back!). Sitting down, turn the body first, and then pull up your legs and place them beautifully in the salon. When leaving the car, proceed in the reverse order.

4. Take a break every 1,5-2 hours of driving. Be sure to get out of the car and take a walk.

5. If possible, do some exercises. First, a couple of side bends, then stretch your arms up, join your palms and slowly put your straight arms behind your head, tilting backwards – this will “open” the chest. Well, if you manage to hang a little, this exercise will relax and stretch the spine.
