Prescriptions from Ukraine are accepted in Polish pharmacies

According to the law, pharmacies in Poland are obliged to accept prescriptions issued outside the European Union, but under certain conditions. In the case of a threat to the patient’s health, there is also the possibility of dispensing medicines without a doctor’s prescription. The rules are explained below.

  2. Prescriptions issued outside the European Union must contain certain necessary information relating to the patient, the prescriber and the medicine
  3. If the patient’s health is at risk, a prescription is not required – it can be written by a pharmacist

Public pharmacies operating on the territory of Poland are obliged to serve according to a prescription issued in countries that are not part of the European Union, including in Ukraine. This was recalled by the Main Chamber of Pharmacy, which asked to ensure access to medicines to persons who provide them for sale.

The order of the Minister of Health dated February 23, 2021 describes the list of data that must be contained in a prescription issued by a country that is not part of the European Union. These should be:

  2. the address of the patient
  3. international (commonly used) name or trade name
  4. release form
  5. strength of medicine
  6. amount of medicine
  7. the date the prescription was issued
  8. data of the person who issued the prescription, in the form of a stamp or printed text and his personal signature.

The details of the prescriber must include: name(s) and surname, professional qualification, medical professional ID, e-mail address or telephone number with an international prefix for direct contact with the prescriber, signature or signature of the person, authorized to issue a prescription.
