Preparing children for literacy: classes for preschool children
Experts have different opinions about when preparing children for literacy training gives the best results – at 3 years old or at 5 years old, it all depends on individual development. Usually, parents start to work with kids at 4-5 years old. Information on how to organize classes and avoid mistakes will be useful for home teaching.
Errors in literacy classes
The ability to read before entering the 1st grade helps the child to more easily get used to the new school environment for him. Slow reading in grade 2 or 3 is a learning obstacle. Therefore, parents strive to prepare their children for school on their own. Sometimes they are too zealous, and make mistakes, which will be discussed further.
Lessons with young children who have just learned to speak should be approached with caution. Strange as it may seem, but among babies with CRD there are those who are taught different sciences from an early age. Until the age of 4, it is important to develop fine motor skills and correct pronunciation.
It will be a mistake to learn the alphabet, it will interfere with mastering the reading skill. At the initial stage, it is important that the child correlates the image of the letter with the sound that it stands for. They learn sounds and syllables in parallel. The principles of how a preschooler should be taught to read and write can be summarized in three points:
- mastering new knowledge through the game;
- correct pronunciation of speech sounds, their recognition;
- desire to be able to read.
A serious mistake of parents is accompanying reading with negative emotions that arise in the child. You need to negotiate, show a lot of creative efforts so that learning arouses interest.
Learning to read while playing preschool children
Parents need bright pictures and images of letters for classes. Cubes with letters, sets with magnets or Velcro, self-cut lettering images are suitable. When making letters on your own, materials with different textures are used, sticking them on a solid base.
So that the child quickly remembers the pronunciation of sounds and spelling of letters, develop auditory and visual memory, use tactile sensations. To train auditory memory, they play various games to recognize sounds in words. For example, a child should recognize the sound “o”, and clap his hands when he hears a word with such a sound. Reading syllables is also reinforced with a game and an alphabet book.
In the older preschool age, in parallel with reading, they develop the writing skill, starting with sticks and circles.
When the child learns to read syllables, they move on to small texts with pictures. For the first reading, you need fairy tales with large text and bright illustrations. Working with a prepared child of 5-6 years old every day, you can teach him to read and write in 2 months.
