Premature babies: consequences in the future, in adulthood, 7 months
Do not be afraid of the consequences in the future for premature babies. Modern medicine has made great strides forward, so the risks for such children are minimized. However, you still need to be especially careful with babies born prematurely.
Features of children born before 35-36 weeks
Externally, premature babies differ from full-term babies, since they did not have time to fully form in the womb.
Here are their main features:
- Small size and weight. Usually the weight of a premature baby does not exceed 2,5 kg. However, the child does not look dystrophic at the same time, since his weight corresponds to his height.
- Disproportionate body. The arms and neck are shorter than the required length, the navel is lower than in full-term babies.
- The body is abundantly covered with the original fluff – lanugo.
- Girls have underdeveloped labia, so there is a gaping genital fissure.
- Boys have an empty scrotum, the testicles are located in the abdominal cavity or in the inguinal canals, as they descend only towards the end of pregnancy.
- The nails are not fully formed.
- The auricles are soft. They can stick together and wrap inward.
- The small fontanelle is open.
- Hyperemia is present.
The earlier the child is born, the more and more clearly the described features appear.
Possible problems in adulthood in children born at 7-8 months of pregnancy
The main problem of premature babies is that not all of their organs are finally formed. In particular, the digestive system did not have time to fully form, which is why there are difficulties in assimilating food. However, premature babies on these indicators quickly catch up with their peers.
In the future, the consequences of prematurity are manifested in preschool and junior school age. It is more difficult for premature babies to learn and absorb information. You need to deal with them additionally.
The full intellectual development of premature babies also takes a little more time.
One of the rarest and most unpleasant consequences is the rapid development of certain diseases. Most often they relate to vision, hearing and the nervous system. How serious such problems manifest themselves depends on the therapy chosen by the doctor.
If your baby is asked to be born ahead of time, do not panic, just trust the doctors. Premature babies require a little more attention, however, in terms of basic indicators, they usually do not differ from babies born on time.
