The young mother woke up only on the fifth day after the birth of her daughter.
Angela Primachenko, 27, a pediatric neonatologist from Vancouver, was 33 weeks pregnant when she was diagnosed with coronavirus. The woman’s condition worsened, and after a week of treatment she was put into a drug-induced coma.
For 10 days, doctors fought for the life of Angela and her child. For 10 days the woman was unconscious, breathing with the help of a ventilator. And when she woke up on April 6, she found out that she had given birth to a daughter.
Baby Ava was born five days earlier by caesarean section. At some point, Angela’s condition became so serious that the doctors decided to have the operation several weeks ahead of schedule. So they saved both mom and baby.
When I woke up from the coma, I immediately saw that my stomach had disappeared. It was just a brain explosion – I was so scared, ”Angela recalls her first impressions.
Little Ava was born with a weight of 2 kg. The girl’s life was not in danger, but her mother was able to hug her newborn daughter only a week later, when Angela’s coronavirus test showed a negative result.
“I’m crying! I came out of a coma and hold my daughter, ”she signed her first photo with her daughter on social networks.
For another week, the premature baby was kept under observation in the intensive care unit, and then finally was discharged home.
“Ava, my little champion, feels great and is gaining weight every day,” Angela said.
The happy mother could not wait for her eldest daughter Emily, who is only 11 months old, to see her little sister. How the girl’s face shone when she saw the bundle with the baby. Emily’s touching reaction was caught in the video that Angela shared on social networks.
“My girls have met,” a happy mother signed the post.
Angela confesses: she does not know how she contracted the virus. She assures that she followed all the precautions and even stopped working to protect herself during pregnancy. When Angela found out about her diagnosis, she, as a doctor, immediately realized that in her case everything would end with a ventilator.
“At some point, I just couldn’t breathe,” she recalls.
“We already thought we were losing her. We only had to pray, ”say Angela’s relatives.
But mommy fighter got out. Now Angela is infinitely grateful to the doctors who saved the lives of her and her daughter.
“Thank you to these wonderful people who made our meeting with my daughter possible!” – says the happy mom.
