Eat well when you are pregnant: the 6 rules to follow
No raw meat
Be careful with meat, especially when prepared raw, such as beef carpaccio, or undercooked, such as blood-eating lamb. The golden rule: eat well-cooked meats. Even more so if you are not immune to toxoplasmosis. The part must be brought to a minimum of 65 ° C over its entire thickness. If the meat is frozen at -20 ° C, the parasite is normally eliminated. A tip too: think about wash your hands well before handling meat.
Charcuterie: beware!
Summer often rhymes with aperitif and … delicatessen. Don’t fall for this trap. Rillettes, pâté, foie gras or jelly products can be contaminated during their preparation. Know that our way of life, which mainly uses refrigeration for this type of food, allows bacteria to multiply: essentially the Listeria.
The best, to avoid any risk of contamination, is to do not consume at all from delicatessen during your pregnancy. If despite everything, the temptation is too strong, prefer them prepackaged products or via conserve. When cutting, they are more prone to be parasitized because of the knives that are used to slice.
We draw a line on the cheese
For the same reasons as cold cuts, the raw milk cheese should not be consumed by expectant mothers due to the risk of listeriosis. You can fall back on cooked, hard and pasteurized cheeses. Be careful to remove the crust.
Beware of leftovers
Usually stored in your fridge, the leftovers of your dishes should be eaten with caution. It is important to warm up in the oven or in the pan. Likewise, be vigilant about the temperature of your refrigerator. Food should be stored between 2 and 4 ° C maximum. If you are in doubt, do not consume them. Your darling will be happy to finish them …
Watch out for the fish
Smoked fish, raw shellfish, tarama, surimi… you will have to draw a line on all these products during the 9 months of your pregnancy. Source of fatty acids and proteins, some fish are also part of the food most frequently contaminated and are to be banned. If the French Food Safety Association (AFSSA) recommends that expectant mothers eat fish regularly (twice a week), it must in fact be chosen well to avoid mercury contamination. Big fish like the sea bream, espadon, shark and tuna have a high level of this metal. Better to opt for farmed fish, less exposed, such as salmon.
Raw eggs and ice cream: prohibited
Because they can be contaminated with salmonella, raw or undercooked eggs should be avoided. As well as all preparations such as mayonnaise, pastry creams, chocolate mousse, tiramisu or Caesar dressing. Opt for hard-boiled eggs rather than soft-boiled or fried eggs.
Pastry side, prefer cakes where the dough is well cooked. When the temperature rises, we rush to ice, especially during pregnancy. Bad news: they will have to be banish of your daily life. If they are composed of liquid cream, milk and sugar, they also contain egg yolks. To console yourself, make yourself a nice frozen strawberry smoothie.
