Pregnancy with increased TTG, increased TTG during pregnancy
Increased TSH during pregnancy is a reason for contacting an endocrinologist. If the thyroid-stimulating hormone in a woman exceeds the permissible limits, this can adversely affect the condition of the developing fetus, the imbalance of the hormonal system must be eliminated.
Pregnancy with elevated TSH
TSH is responsible for the functioning of the thyroid gland and, in combination with the hormones T3 and T4 produced by the pituitary gland, ensures the normal functioning of all body systems.
If the body produces an excess amount of TSH, the woman experiences the following symptoms:
- Feeling tired that does not go away even after a night’s sleep;
- Being overweight with no appetite;
- Chronic constipation
- Unhealthy pallor;
- Distraction of attention, inability to concentrate;
- Fast fatiguability;
- Slightly lowered body temperature;
- Insomnia.
When a woman visits a doctor to register for pregnancy, she is referred for tests, including tests for thyroid hormones. Normally, TSH levels are at their lowest during the first trimester. With an increase in the term, the concentration of the hormone increases.
Elevated TSH and pregnancy are a dangerous combination. In the absence of therapy, the following complications may occur:
- Gestosis;
- Cholecystitis;
- Improper work of the adrenal glands;
- Fetal growth retardation;
- Problems with the mental and neuropsychic development of the child after childbirth.
Sometimes a disorder in the hormonal system leads to cancer.
The negative effect of increased TSH on the fetus is due to the fact that the thyroid gland has not yet been fully formed, and its development depends on the hormonal system of the mother.
The treatment of elevated TSH should not be dealt with by a gynecologist leading a pregnancy, but by an endocrinologist. It is to him that a woman is sent if they notice any deviations in the analyzes. In this case, the specialist pays attention to the level of T3 and T4. The amount of these hormones combined with the increased TSH is critical.
As a rule, the TSH level is brought back to normal by prescribing special medications. Women with thyroid problems need to be tested periodically during pregnancy to monitor TSH fluctuations. It is advisable to visit a doctor at the stage of pregnancy planning in order to carry out appropriate therapy in advance.
