Pregnancy while taking birth control pills
Pregnancy while taking birth control is always a surprise. Contraceptives make it possible to have as many children as the family can provide. But sometimes incidents happen.
How does pregnancy occur while taking birth control pills?
First you need to understand how contraceptive drugs work. They are divided into two types: hormonal and non-hormonal. The latter are applied topically and contain substances destructive to sperm. Hormonal contraceptives suppress ovulation and cause cervical mucus to thicken, preventing egg implantation.
The main thing when taking contraceptives is strict adherence to the instructions. If a woman breaks the rules at least once or misses taking pills, the risk of pregnancy increases dramatically.
You can get pregnant while taking contraceptives in such cases if:
- the woman has just started using this method and does not use any additional means during the first cycle;
- the contraceptive is not chosen correctly;
- within 2-3 hours after administration, the woman experienced vomiting, diarrhea, or an upset;
- a woman takes medications (antibiotics or antifungal agents) or drinks a decoction of a series;
- increased consumption of alcoholic beverages.
When alcohol is consumed, the liver begins to get rid of toxins, and at the same time from estrogen. Therefore, the expected suppression of ovulation does not occur and the woman can become pregnant.
What to do if you become pregnant while taking birth control?
Women who become pregnant while taking contraceptives are very worried about whether these drugs will affect the development of the fetus, and often rush to have an abortion. But this is an unwise decision. Doctors do not recommend terminating a pregnancy in such cases.
As a rule, pregnancy, which occurs against the background of contraception, ends well. Statistics confirm that the number of occurrences of children with deviations and anomalies does not differ from the average statistical indicators, that is, there is no risk. The amount of hormones is not so great as to harm the unborn baby in any way.
Taking contraceptives is a convenient and safe method of contraception. The main thing is to follow the requirements specified in the instructions and follow the instructions of the doctor.
