Preejaculate is a colorless, mucous discharge that forms in the male bulbourethral glands and the tubular glands that secrete mucus. It comes out of the penis during intense sexual arousal, even before the semen ejaculates fully.
Preejaculate – what is its function?
Pre-ejaculate – also called pre-ejaculation fluid – has two tasks to perform. The main thing is to alkalinize the urine, which is harmful to sperm. In this way, he prepares the “way” for proper ejaculation. The second is to act as a natural lubricant. It should be noted that the amount of pre-ejaculate secreted by the glands varies depending on the body of the man. The norm is from 2 to 5 ml. In some cases, abundant amounts of it are secreted – more than 5 ml, but some do not produce it at all, which does not in any way indicate disease or organ dysfunction.
Preejaculate and pregnancy
Can I get pregnant as a result of pre-ejaculate getting into the vagina? Until 2010, pre-ejaculate sperm was thought to be dead or too low to be possible. Only in 2011, four British scientists (Stephen R. Killick, Katherine R. Killick, Christine Leary and James Trussell) concluded on the basis of advanced studies that the secretion contained live sperm. The research was carried out on 27 men. In 37 percent of these, the condition and quantity of sperm were sufficient to enable fertilization. 41 percent of the subjects found sperm in smaller numbers, most of them dead, but only one alive in the pre-ejaculate was enough for fertilization to take place.
For this reason, intermittent intercourse is not recommended as a method of effective contraception – in such a situation, the use of a condom is a great certainty that you will not get pregnant. This is confirmed by the indicator in the so-called Pearl’s scale – according to him, out of 100 women using intermittent intercourse as a method of contraception, from fifteen to twenty-eight are at varying degrees of risk of becoming pregnant.
Preejaculate and venereal diseases
Research conducted in 2010 by British scientists showed not only the presence of sperm in the pre-ejaculate, but also secreted T lymphocytes (i.e. CD4 cells) and macrophages. T cells are white blood cells that control how the immune system responds to various types of infection. This way can be transmitted, among others HIV virus. Therefore, introducing pre-ejaculation of a sick person into a woman’s genital tract may transmit the infection.
Preejakulat a ejakulat
Pre-ejaculate and ejaculate are two different substances that should not be confused with each other. The ejaculate is a portion of sperm, i.e. a liquid secretion made up of the products of the testicles, seminal vesicles, epididymis, bulbourethral glands, and the prostate gland. It normally contains over 20 million sperm per milliliter, and the average amount of semen is between 2 and 5 ml. It also has a milk-like color, while the pre-ejaculate is transparent.
