Practice: how to comb your hair correctly

Any haircut without neat styling loses style and attractiveness. Where does it all begin? Let’s try to figure out how to comb your hair correctly, what tools and tools will be useful to us for this, and in general, how often you need to comb your hair during the day.

How to comb your hair: 10 main rules

Trichologists and stylists unanimously claim that combing your hair depends on how healthy, shiny and beautiful it looks. After all, what happens in the process of combing?
  • Hair not only becomes smooth and soft, but also cleaned of dirt and dust that hover in the air.

  • Sebum is evenly distributed over the entire surface of the head.

  • There is a natural massage of the scalp, which has a positive effect on our nervous system.

With the help of experts, we have compiled the basic rules for combing hair.

So how do you comb them properly?
  • Comb your hair twice a day. Firstly, this way they will be less confused, and secondly, this is one of the ways to improve blood circulation and stimulate the growth of new hair.

  • Do not pull your hair sharply, trying to cope with tangled areas and tangles. There is a high risk of injury.

  • If your hair is long, comb it with one hand and hold it with the other so as not to pull or stretch it.

  • Long hair can be combed with your head down: this trick helps to increase blood circulation.

  • Always start brushing your hair from the ends and work your way up. So the roots are less likely to suffer.

  • After showering, let the strands dry thoroughly before combing them.

  • To make your hair less tangled, you can comb it in the shower, just before washing your hair.

  • Choose the right styling tools (more on that below).

  • To facilitate the process of combing your hair, use after shampoo special care products – balms and conditioners.

  • Combing your hair before bed is a good idea, especially if you have long hair.

Long

How to comb long hair? There are many life hacks. You will need two combs: a comb (preferably with wide-set teeth) and a massage brush. First of all, you need to divide the hair in half and throw it forward, half on the left shoulder, half on the right. Stepping back from the tips of 5-10 centimeters, firmly grasp the strand with your palm, and comb the ends with your other hand. After combing them, grab the hair higher and comb it again. And so on until you get to the roots. You can not divide the hair in half, but throw all the hair forward and lower your head, and then comb it in the same way, gradually rising from the tips to the roots. First, with a comb – to detangle the hair, then – with a massage brush, combining combing with massage.

Short

The list of recommendations on how to comb short hair correctly is much smaller, since the task is simpler. Short hair (up to the shoulders) can be combed immediately from the roots. As a rule, with such a length, they practically do not get confused, and if they are also properly looked after, then there will be no knots at all.

A round massage brush or a brush with a wide working surface will do. The main thing is that the teeth on it are not very sharp and do not injure the scalp.

Wet

How to properly comb wet hair and, in general, whether it is worth doing it worries many girls. If it is not possible to avoid combing wet hair, it is necessary to apply special indelible products to them that facilitate combing, and choose wide combs to reduce trauma. Especially careful should be those who have sparse hair or have begun to thin. Keep in mind that when brushing wet hair, there is a high risk of increasing hair loss. Very confusing

To detangle tangles, special sprays or oils are used to facilitate combing, they instantly help to close the scales and smooth the hair. After applying the spray, you must wait 30 seconds, then proceed to combing. Wooden combs with sparse teeth or combs are best suited for this purpose. And only when all the knots and tangles are untangled, you can use a massage brush. Read more about the fight against tangles here.

Rigid and naughty

The best comb for coarse and unruly hair is a wide-toothed comb, after which it is useful to go through the curls with a round brush, moving from the roots to the tips. Here, special products to facilitate combing, indelible oils and creams will be of good help.

A smoker

The main assistant for those who have frizzy hair is a wooden comb. It will remove static electricity, and a spray or other easy combing agent will pacify the strands and make them smooth.

thin and weakened

It is impossible to injure thin and weakened hair in any case. How to comb them correctly? A wooden comb or a comb with natural bristles makes the procedure much easier and removes static electricity. Combing movements should be soft and careful.

Curly

Curly hair is a special category. They are porous, often dry and hard. Combing them is a whole story. It is worth arming yourself with a comb with rare teeth, be sure to use a tool for easy combing. If there are nodules or tangles along the way, do not tear them, gently untangle them with your fingers, trying not to damage the hair once again.

Extended

Your choice – combs and brushes with natural soft bristles. No massage balls at the ends of the prongs. The purpose of combing is not just to comb your hair, but also not to lose the extended hairs. When combing, be sure to hold the strand with your free hand, as described in the recommendations for long hair.

How to choose a good comb

When choosing a comb, comb or massage brush, pay attention to what they are made of. Wood and horn are good for safe combing. These materials do not electrify the hair and are very comfortable to use. The disadvantages include the fact that wooden combs do not withstand frequent washing, as they absorb moisture and deform, and horn combs become unusable over time, as they develop slits that can cause damage to the hair.

  • Plastic combs and brushes are the most popular and affordable option. They are quite durable, very easy to care for, they are easy to wash. But it is they who often provoke the electrification of hair.

  • Nylon combs are often chosen for children. They are comfortable and soft, but they are unlikely to cope even with medium-length hair, not to mention long hair, on which knots often form.

  • Silicone combs are ideal for curly hair. Such tools help to evenly distribute care products over the entire length of the hair.

  • Ebony combs are also a good option for those who strive for healthy and shiny hair. They delicately and carefully take care of the hair.

  • Metal combs are not worth choosing. Trichologists are sure that there is no benefit from them: rough, hard, often with jagged edges, they can easily injure not only the scalp, but also the hair.

There is one more thing to take into account.

  • For hair of any length, it is better to use two combs – hair also likes variety.

  • Always use only your comb and keep it clean by rinsing it with warm water and shampoo from time to time.

  • After combing, do not allow the hair to remain on the teeth.

  • Throw away broken combs without regret!

  • To clean the massage brush, you can use a toothbrush: clean the comb under running warm water.

What else you need to know about proper hair brushing

How much hair should normally remain on a comb after combing?

Normally, a person can lose about 100 hairs per day. But it is not so much the number that is important, but the noticeable increase in the number of hairs that remain on the comb. This is an occasion to reconsider hair and scalp care, as well as diet. One of the causes of hair loss is a lack of vitamins and minerals, such as iron. Hair can also break off if it is damaged, including due to improper combing.

Which comb is better to comb your hair so as not to damage long curls?

As we have already said, a comb with frequent teeth and a massage brush are best suited for this purpose. There is work for each of these tools.

Is it necessary to brush your hair before showering?

This is a very useful recommendation, especially if you have long, curly or wavy hair. Such a trick will help later to comb them better and make them beautiful.

How to comb long hair?

Hair must be combed from the bottom up, holding the bulk of the hair with your free hand. If the hair is very thick, it is worth combing strand by strand, going up each from bottom to top, until you walk all over the head. Only after that you need to comb the hair from the roots down along the entire length. And beauty is guaranteed to you!

How to choose a hairbrush for every day?

The ideal comb for every day is a comb or brush with rare teeth. If you have dandruff, use a fine-toothed comb. In general, you can follow the rule: the harder the hair, the harder the comb should be; the thicker and thicker the hair, the more sparse the teeth of the comb or brush should be, and finally, the longer the hair, the wider the brush should be. Ideally round. For hair of any length, a small portable brush with a lid is useful, which you can take with you to quickly tidy up your hair at the right time.
