Potato variety Zhukovsky early, variety description
The Zhukovsky potato variety is well known among landowners. It is ideal for growing in the middle zone of the country, where summer does not always pamper with warm days. Its combination of early ripening ability and good taste keeps it the most popular potato variety for many years.
Description of the potato variety “Zhukovsky”
Potato “Zhukovsky” is an early ripening variety, it is undemanding to the composition of the soil and climate, therefore it is successfully grown in the northern regions. The bushes of the plant are low and low-branched, the corolla of flowers are red-violet in color, the fruits after flowering, as a rule, are not formed.
Like all early varieties, late harvesting potatoes lose their excellent taste. Therefore, it is very important not to overexpose the tubers in the ground and adhere to the ripening dates.
The tubers are of the correct oval shape, they are smooth to the touch. Root peel is slightly pinkish. The eyes are shallow, and when germinating, purple sprouts appear. The flesh of the root vegetable is white, does not turn black in the open air. During heat treatment, the potatoes do not fall apart, they retain their shape well.
This variety tolerates dry weather well, but the size of the tubers may decrease slightly. For the germination of the eyes of the potato, t – 5 ° C is enough, so planting can be done directly from the cellar, without waiting for the sprouts to appear.
Characteristics of the early potato variety “Zhukovsky”
The undoubted advantages of the variety include high resistance to diseases such as nematodes, rhizoctonia, scab. In addition, the tubers are resistant to mechanical damage and tolerate transportation well.
The main characteristics of the variety “Zhukovsky”:
- ripening time – from 70 to 80 days, you can taste the taste of young potatoes already in July;
- yield – with a ripening period of 60 days, 12-15 t / ha can be harvested, 80 days up to 45 t / ha;
- the number of tubers in the nest is on average 10-15 pieces;
- tuber weight – 100-150 g;

- keeping quality – 95−98%.
There are few disadvantages of this variety, the most significant of them is the predisposition to late blight. In wet weather, the disease can easily affect the leaves of the root vegetable. To prevent this from happening, it is necessary to treat the tops with special protective preparations. The same goes for the Colorado potato beetle.
By taking timely measures to protect the bushes from pests, you can significantly increase the chances of a good harvest. From the description it is clear that the variety has many advantages, but it is very easy to cope with the disadvantages and it is a pleasure to grow it!
