Characteristics of potatoes Kamensky

Among the characteristics of the variety, taste, as well as ripening time and yield, are of particular interest. The main indicators are described below.

Taste qualities of potatoes Kamensky

One of the important advantages of the Kamensky variety is its good taste. At the tasting, the potatoes received a high rating of 4,8 points out of 5 possible. Root crops are suitable for all types of heat treatment:

  • frying;

The pulp is moderately crumbly, tender, at the same time not watery. The share of starch is from 12,2% to 16,8% of the total mass.

Terms of maturation

Potato Kamensky in terms of ripening belongs to early varieties. Harvest can be dug 50-60 days after the appearance of mass shoots. When planting on the May holidays, root crops can be obtained as early as the middle or second half of July. Thanks to this, in regions with a warm autumn, two crop rotations can be planned.

Potato yield Kamensky

The yield index of the Kamensky variety is quite high. From one hundred square meters you can collect 170-176 kg, respectively, from 1 hectare – up to 176 centners. This is 40 centners more compared to the standard potato “Skoroplodny”. The maximum recorded yield was 252 q/ha. To achieve good performance, it is necessary to periodically water and feed the potatoes, as well as carry out hilling.

Where is grown

Variety Kamensky has good resistance to cold, so it can be grown in most regions. First of all, the culture is intended for the Ural and Volga-Vyatka regions. It is also allowed to grow Kamensky in the middle lane, the Volga region and up to Siberia and the Far East.

Disease resistance

Potato Kamensky is immune to cancer, but at the same time it can suffer from the golden nematode. It is also possible to be affected by typical fungal infections, including late blight. Therefore, it is recommended to regularly carry out preventive treatments with fungicides. If necessary, spray with insecticides or folk remedies against insects.

Advantages and disadvantages

Kamensky potatoes are valued by summer residents and farmers for good yields, versatility (used for any type of heat treatment), as well as good taste. The pulp is moderately crumbly, starchy, with a pleasant texture. Root vegetables can be used to prepare any dishes. They are quite large and light, so they can be laid for long-term storage.

How to plant

Planting Kamensky potatoes is planned not earlier than the May holidays – it can be at the beginning or in the middle of the month. The place should be open, without shade and stagnant water. The variety grows on different types of soil, but for a good harvest, you first need to dig up the soil and fertilize it with compost or humus (a bucket per square meter). If there is too much clay in the ground, sawdust or sand is embedded in it (up to 5 kg for the same area).

3-4 weeks before planting Kamensky potatoes, seeds should be transferred to a lighted and cool room (15 degrees), laid in two layers, periodically turned over and sprayed with water. The day before planting, they are treated with a fungicide, for example, Quadris.

Landing pattern is standard:

  1. Level the surface.
  2. Mark several furrows with an interval of 60 cm.
  3. Dig holes up to 10 cm deep at a distance of 30-40 cm.
  4. Put the tubers, give a pinch of wood ash.
  5. Sprinkle with soil.
  6. Pour settled water.
Important! When planning the planting, it is better to plan the furrows in the direction from north to south. Then the bushes will receive maximum sunlight.

Care instructions

Kamensky potatoes are undemanding to care for. But to get a good harvest, you need to create minimum conditions. The basic rules of agricultural technology are as follows:

  1. If it rains periodically, it is enough to water at the time of planting. In hot weather, it is better to give water weekly so that the soil does not dry out and crack.
  2. Fertilizers are applied twice a season. After the mass emergence of seedlings, water with mullein infusion 1:10 or give a complex fertilizer in the amount of 40 g per 10 liters. A similar composition is introduced during the formation of Kamensky potato tubers.
  3. The soil is periodically loosened, weeded. To keep weeds as small as possible, straw, hay, sawdust or other mulch can be placed between the rows and in the holes.
  4. Hilling is carried out after the appearance of mass shoots, and then two more times every 2-3 weeks.
  5. Two weeks before harvesting, watering is completely stopped and the tops are cut off, leaving 10 cm stems.

Periodically, the bushes need to be monitored in order to stop the invasion of insects or the development of infection in time. In rainy summers, with excessive watering, Kamensky potato bushes may suffer from powdery mildew or late blight. Affected plants should be planted immediately, and healthy plantings should be treated with a fungicide:

  • “Score”;
  • “Ridomil Gold”;
  • Fundazol;
  • “Tatu”.

To combat aphids, spider mites and other insects, insecticides are used:

  • “Fufanon”;
  • “Biotlin”;
  • “Karate”;
  • “Inta-Vir”.

Processing is carried out late in the evening so as not to burn the leaves. If necessary, you can use folk remedies, for example, an infusion of wood ash, tobacco dust, dandelions, wormwood and other herbs.

When to collect and how to store

Potato Kamensky belongs to early ripe varieties – the crop fully ripens in two months from the moment the first shoots appear. If planted in mid-May, you can collect root crops at the end of July, and start digging in the middle of the month.

Work is best planned in dry weather. Previously, the tubers are allowed to lie down a bit, shaken off the soil, then sorted into medium and large. The latter should be used first. Small Kamensky potato tubers can be left for planting.

The bulk of the crop is harvested in a cool, dark room and kept for two weeks at a temperature of 12-15 degrees. Then they clean it in the basement, cellar. Store at a temperature of 2-4 degrees Celsius and moderate humidity up to 70%. Periodically ventilate to prevent stagnation of air and moisture. Subject to the described rules, the keeping quality is very high – up to 97% of the resulting crop is preserved over the winter.

Reviews of summer residents about potatoes Kamensky

Lazareva Maria, 52 years old, Vologda
Potato Kamenskaya has become my favorite. It is unpretentious, normally tolerates temperature changes and even drought. The harvest ripens in just two months, just at the end of July, everything can be harvested. It tastes good, suitable for both cooking and frying. A versatile variety for lovers of boiled potatoes.
Khomchenko Natalia, 44 years old, Yekaterinburg
For the Urals, we always try to select drought-resistant varieties of potatoes, and Kamensky is just right for this indicator. He is unpretentious, you can not bother much with care. If the soil is fertile, you can feed once after germination. The color is pink, the flesh is yellowish. Suitable for frying, does not crumble. But it also goes well with puree.
