The Tuleevsky potato is one of the hybrids bred by the Research Institute of Potato Growing in the Kemerovo Region, whose governor is Aman Tuleev. A new bred variety was named in his honor, with this the scientists and agronomists of Kemerovo wanted to thank their governor for his merits in the significant improvement of agriculture in the entire region. For ten years, breeders have been working on obtaining a potato variety worthy of such a name, and in 2007 it was included in the State Register of Vegetable Crops of the Federation. Now, along with many already existing varieties of potatoes, Tuleevskaya potatoes are gradually gaining popularity among industrial agricultural firms and private vegetable growers.

  1. Potato Tuleevsky is a variety of medium ripening, the duration from planting in the ground to the full ripening of tubers is from 80 to 100 days.
  2. The Tuleevsky table potato variety is used for cooking culinary dishes, it is especially good for side dishes in the form of mashed potatoes.
  3. The morphology of the Tuleevsky potato variety: the height of the bushes is from 50 to 70 cm, they are mostly erect, but can be with weak lodging, the leaves are dark green with wavy edges, medium in size, the corolla of flowers is white and rather large.
  4. The yield of Tuleyevskaya potatoes is 180-420 centners per hectare, the record harvest was 458 centners.
  5. The root crop is an elongated oval tuber, the eyes are very small, the peel is earthy yellow, slightly rough, the flesh inside is pale yellow, in the center a vein may appear a tone darker than the pulp.
  6. The weight of an average root crop is from 120 to 270 grams.
  7. The taste of Tuleevsky potatoes is marked as excellent or good, the starch content is almost 17 percent.

  10. Attitude to diseases: the Tuleevsky variety is resistant to cancerous diseases of potatoes, it was noted susceptibility to golden nematode, to late blight this variety has a dual relationship – tops are more stable to this disease than tubers.

Tuleevsky potatoes do not require special conditions for growing, even on virgin lands in the first year of planting, it gives a decent harvest, but we should not forget that some violations in the technological cycle of growing can lead to undesirable consequences, so it is necessary to ensure the necessary minimum for planting potatoes:

  • the soil – in terms of composition, the soil for planting Tuleevsky potatoes should be loose, well aerated, fertile;
  • fertilizer – a complex of fertilizers: organic matter, nitrogen, phosphorus and potash fertilizers are applied in early spring 2 months before planting;
  • watering – the Tuleevsky potato variety can grow excellently for a very long time without abundant watering, it has enough rain, but during a long drought it is necessary to water it 1-2 times a month, alternating with loosening the soil;
  • hilling – potato tubers are planted in a square-nest method (50×50 cm), this method is convenient for further hilling of row spacing, which is carried out at least 2 times during the growing season: once after growing 5-6 leaves, the second after flowering;
  • protection from diseases and pests – before planting, the seed (tubers) should be dressed with special compounds intended for these purposes; there are also means of stimulation to improve the growth of tubers;
  • pest control – the main potato enemy is the Colorado potato beetle. It is almost impossible to exterminate it completely, so potato tops are sprayed with pesticides several times per season: the first time before flowering, then after it ends, and the last time 2-3 weeks before lodging of the tops, this time you can cancel spraying and collect pests manually;
  • pick up and drop off dates – you can plant potato tubers in spring (early or mid-May) at an air temperature of at least + 15 ° C, he is not afraid of sudden changes in night and day temperatures, they start picking potatoes in mid-August and end at the end of September.
Advice! It is necessary to store the harvested potato crop in cellars, basements or special warehouses at a temperature not lower than + 8-10 ° C and air humidity not lower than 60%.

The storage room must have a good exhaust or ventilation system so that the potatoes do not spoil (rot, dry out or hurt) until the next harvest.

A little about the pros and cons

There is still no such variety of vegetables or fruits, which would have only one advantage, each has its own disadvantages. Tuleevsky potatoes are no exception to the general rule.

Possible cons:

  1. The shelf life and percentage of tuber preservation leave much to be desired, the manufacturer of the variety claims only 90% out of 100.
  2. Susceptibility of tubers to late blight and golden nematode (prophylaxis is necessary before planting).
