The Irbitsky potato with an average ripening period belongs to the varieties of the promising direction of the Ural Research Institute of the Agricultural Academy: tubers are formed in 70-90 days. His date of birth is in 2009.
The Irbitsky variety is included in the State Register of the Federation for cultivation in the Volga-Vyatka and West Siberian districts. But thanks to its popularity, it “located” in Ukraine and Moldova, where it is successfully cultivated to this day.
Description and characteristics
The Irbitsky variety is characterized by the average height of the bush, which is quite compact. It is a semi-erect plant with an intermediate growth pattern. The leaves are medium in size and wavy along the edge, saturated, green.
The inner surface of the rim is painted azure. The skin of the tubers is pink-red, they are round in shape. The eyes of Irbitsky are medium-sized, and the flesh is yellowish in color. One nest contains up to 6-8 tubers, each weighing 110-190 g. The pulp contains 13-16,5% starch.
One hectare yields 250-400 q of starchy potato tubers. The variety is unpretentious: drought-resistant and little susceptible to damage, after which it quickly recovers. It is highly resistant to many dangerous diseases that affect potatoes.
Advantages and disadvantages
Potato varieties Irbitsky can be evaluated on a 5-point scale by 5 points: its advantages are undeniable, and it is rather difficult to identify its disadvantages.
Advantages | Disadvantages |
high yield | — |
commodity indicators at the level of 97%
great taste | |
good keeping quality (about 96%)
practically not affected by potato cancer, late blight, mosaic and leaf curl viruses, withstands attacks of the golden nematode
unpretentious in care: drought-resistant, injury-resistant, grows on soils of different composition
tolerates adverse environmental factors |
Landing
If the planting material is of good quality and the planting dates are determined correctly, then a good harvest is guaranteed. The methods for preparing tubers for planting are as follows:
- tubers are taken out of storage 3 weeks before planting in the ground;
- sort out potatoes, removing tubers unsuitable for planting;
- for germination, place in a warm place in the light;
- large tubers are cut so that each half has 3 eyes;
- are treated with growth stimulants and drugs to protect against diseases.
An open, sunny place without drafts with any soil composition and soil acidity pH = 6 is allotted for planting. Naturally, the best harvest can be obtained on fertilized, fertile soils. The planting pattern is traditional: 60 × 35 cm to a depth of 10 cm in pre-dug furrows.
Planting should be as early as possible, but the soil temperature should correspond to + 7-8оC. In such conditions, potatoes quickly take root and grow. Usually landing time is in mid-May. There are “two pitfalls” here: planting tubers in unheated soil leads to their decay, and late planting with a delay of 2 weeks reduces the yield by 20%. Therefore, it is important to correctly determine the timing for obtaining early nutritional products.
The landing rules are clearly demonstrated by the video:
Care
The main approaches to the cultivation of potatoes of the Irbitsky variety are traditional and applicable, as well as for any potato crop. This loosening the soil and the destruction of weeds. It is difficult to develop a universal scheme for the entire growing season, since much depends on climatic conditions. But since the Irbitsky potato is unpretentious, it withstands weather disasters and gives a good harvest in any conditions.
Hilling and feeding
Hilling is necessary for the growth of lateral underground shoots on which tubers develop. For any variety of potatoes, this is a necessary procedure. Additional watering will not harm him, especially if the summer is hot and dry.
These agrotechnical measures are carried out in the following sequence:
- when the tops grow, the first deep (10-12 cm) loosening is carried out, then the soil is loosened 2 and 3 times to a depth of 6-7 cm;
- when the potato reaches a height of 15-17 cm, the bushes are ready for hilling, an earthen comb is poured on the plant by 18-20 cm;
- when the tops are closed, the Irbitsky variety needs the next (repeated) hilling;
- an average of three irrigations are carried out per season, which are more convenient to combine with top dressing, especially on poor soils.
Fertilizers are applied even before planting potatoes, ash containing phosphorus and potassium, which are important for the development of the tuber, is introduced into the wells. And for its growth, nitrogen is needed: it is introduced in the form of ammophos or mullein.
During the cultivation of potatoes, Irbitsky use top dressing:
- An aqueous infusion is prepared from chicken manure from 2 parts of manure and 30 parts of water. First, you can prepare a concentrated infusion, and then (after 2 days) dilute it. Before top dressing, the earth must be moist, otherwise you can burn the roots.
- The second feeding is carried out during the formation of buds. Use the same bird droppings or mullein in the same proportions. A liter of solution goes to the Irbitsky potato bush.
- During flowering, this potato variety can be fed with a dry composition consisting of ash (4 tablespoons) and potassium sulfate (1,5 tablespoons) per linear meter.
In autumn, after harvesting 1 m2 area add a bucket of humus or compost, 15 g of potassium salt and 30 g of superphosphate.
Diseases and pests
The Irbitsky potato practically does not suffer from common potato infections. If diseased bushes nevertheless appear, then insecticide treatment is needed.
With a small number of pests on potatoes (for example, the appearance of the Colorado potato beetle, potato moth or wireworm), it is possible to treat with folk remedies that will not harm the soil and other inhabitants of the backyard.
Harvesting
Irbitsky potatoes are harvested in August, as this is a mid-season variety:
- For 1-2 weeks, the tops are mowed to ripen the tubers.
- Harvesting is carried out in dry weather, laying out the tubers under a canopy.
- Discard small, diseased or damaged tubers.
- Lay in a pre-prepared storage for the winter.
Small tubers are not suitable for this, they will adapt for a long time and will slowly grow when planted.
