Myocarditis after Pfizer. How many cases among children?

In early July 2020, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) confirmed that there is an association between very rare cases of myocarditis and pericarditis in people vaccinated with Pfizer or Moderna. It was then determined that such events most often occurred among young men.

Now, more than six months later, the US CDC publishes detailed data on COVID-19 immunization among children and adolescents. There is also information about the reported adverse reactions after vaccination, including cases of myocarditis.

The conclusions of the report confirm what the EMA has already stated – such cases are extremely rare, also in the age range from 5 to 17 years. This is the report on his Facebook profile that sums up the drug. Bartosz Fiałek:

Administered to children in the 5–11 age group, 12 cases of MS were reported (after the second dose of Comirnata, the risk for male children was estimated at 4,3 cases of MS per 1 million doses administered, and at women 2 cases of MS per 1 million doses administered).
  2. The risk of MSD after administration of the XNUMXnd dose of Comirnata among male children in the 5-11 age group it was approx. 10 times lower than in the 12-15 age group and approx. 16 times lower than in the 16-17 age group.
  3. The risk of MSS among female children and adolescents aged 5-17 is lower than in male children and adolescents.

Myocarditis – what is it?

Myocarditis is a disease most often of viral or bacterial origin. It can occur, for example, in the course of influenza, but also COVID-19 infection.
