Post-holiday skin care program

Sun, air and water are the main components of the perfect vacation. However, what gives joy on the one hand, on the other hand, does not always benefit the skin. So after the holidays, give her a little rest. We tell you what to do when you return from the sea.

humidification

A vacation spent at a resort in hot countries is rarely without stress for the skin. It can even result in dehydration. Especially if you spent a lot of time on the beach or just in the active sun.

So the first thing you need to do is moisturize your skin. That is, not just to saturate with moisture, but to restore the hydrolipid mantle. After all, the damaged epidermis is not able to retain moisture inside the cells, and it simply evaporates.

Vichy brand medical expert Ekaterina Turubara recommends pay attention to the following components in cosmetics:

  • hydrofixer, retaining water on the surface of the epidermis – high molecular weight hyaluronic acid, glycerin, chitosan, aloe;

  • hydrantpenetrating into the deep layers of the epidermis – fragmented (low molecular weight) hyaluronic acid, components of a natural moisturizing factor (NMF);

  • some lipids, that is, fats that form the natural barrier of the skin – ceramides, squalane, vitamin E.

“Avoid greasy and heavy textures, even if the skin is flaky. Flaking is often caused by dehydration, and trying to fix this with oil-based products can lead to oily skin and clogged pores. In this case, moisturizing care in the form of a light serum will be more effective,” says Ekaterina Turubara.

We recommend:

  • Moisturizing lotion for dry to very dry skin CeraVe moisturizes the skin for 24 hours thanks to MVE technology, which ensures the gradual release of active ingredients. Contributes to the restoration of the protective barrier due to ceramides.

  • Intensive moisturizing regenerating gel Hydrating B5 Gel, SkinCeuticals contains a high concentration of hyaluronic acid, vitamin B5, and components of a natural moisturizing factor. Boosts the power of your daily moisturizer.

  • Garnier sheet masks – choose any, each is impregnated with a gel based on hyaluronic acid and has a powerful moisturizing effect.

Exfoliation

Hyperkeratosis – thickening of the stratum corneum – is a protective reaction of the skin to prolonged insolation and always accompanies sunburn. So two weeks after returning, you need to use mild exfoliating products in the form of a cream, lotion or mask.

“A delicate renewal is essential for the skin, even if the plan for the coming months is to keep the tan at all costs. After a couple of weeks, the chocolate tone turns into a dirty gray (all due to hyperkeratosis), and if the layer of dead cells is removed, the skin will shine again. In addition, it will help prevent the accumulation of dead cells in the pores,” says Ekaterina Turubara.

Exfoliating your skin will “refresh” your tan

Avoid:

  • abrasive scrubs based on large solid particles of any origin (aluminum oxide, apricot kernels, and coffee grounds fall into this category) – they are all too aggressive for the skin after intense insolation;

  • salicylic acid and in general any acids in high concentration – they can cause photosensitivity, that is, increase the sensitivity of the skin to ultraviolet radiation.

After a sea holiday, peeling based on mild AHA acids in a low concentration is recommended. Here are the refreshers we chose:

  • Smoothing peeling gel for washing “Revitalift”, L’Oréal Paris includes glycolic acid and provides delicate exfoliation during cleansing.

  • Mineral peeling mask “Double Radiance”, Vichy contains both fruit acids and abrasives. But in this case, you should not be afraid of scrubbing particles: they are small and treat the skin carefully.

Antioxidants

Prolonged exposure to the sun undermines the antioxidant reserves of the skin, so immediately after a beach holiday, you need to replenish the depleted reserves. For these purposes, creams and serums with vitamins and plant extracts are suitable:

  • tocopherol;

  • green tea;

  • baicalin;

  • resveratrol;

  • madecassoside.

“Avoid high concentrations of vitamin C, which can provoke skin photosensitivity, as well as retinol and its analogues – put them off until the second half of September or early October, otherwise you can get noticeable burns even in cloudy weather,” warns Ekaterina Turubara.

Our recommendations:

  • Botanic cream for combination and oily skin “Green Tea”, Garnier makes sure that the skin is both matte and hydrated. Contains green tea extract, a natural antioxidant.

  • Advanced Génifique Sensitive Double Action Youth Concentrate, Lancôme combines two concentrates at once, which soothe the skin and enhance its protective properties. Contains a stellar combination of antioxidants: ferulic acid and vitamin E.
