The importance of a letter, parcel, package received on time is invaluable. This is exactly what postal workers are doing, to whom the professional holiday is dedicated – Post Day 2022

When celebrated

Post Day 2022 fell on July 10. Every year it is celebrated on the second Sunday of this summer month.

The holiday aims to show the high importance of the industry for the country and its citizens, despite the active development of Internet technologies.

More than three billion letters, parcels, invoices pass through the country’s post offices every year. Responsibility, attentiveness, patience are the qualities that every employee of this type of activity should possess.

history of the holiday

Mankind has always been looking for ways to transmit information over long distances. Since stone times, smoke from a fire, beats on a signal drum have been used as a warning of impending danger. Later, pigeon mail appeared, where a message written in ink was tied to a bird’s paw. There was also the transmission of information through messengers. They memorized the message and reported it to the addressee. The work was not enviable. Everyone knows the fact that the bearers of bad news were often killed.

The history of the appearance of the state postal service goes back to the reign of Peter I, when a decree was issued on the creation of the first route linking several cities from Moscow to Arkhangelsk. The decree regulated the work of post offices, requirements for personnel, the responsibility of carriers for the delivery and safety of the property entrusted to them.

In the 1833th century, the first Moscow post offices appeared, which gradually began to open in all cities of the country. In XNUMX, the first letter boxes were installed in Moscow. A few decades later, the Universal Postal Union was organized, which united two dozen countries.

During the Great Patriotic War, the military field mail was the link between military units, ships, subdivisions. The postal workers, along with the soldiers, had to take up arms so that the enemy would not get the valuable cargo, because this could cause enormous damage to the Soviet army. About 70 million letters to the Red Army were delivered by field mail per month. The most active correspondence was conducted between front-line soldiers and their relatives in the rear. It is worth remembering the well-known triangle letters from relatives and friends. They were written on an ordinary sheet of paper, which was folded in a triangle, first in one direction, then in the other, and the address was written on an empty space. The letters could not indicate in a single word the location of secret objects and other important information that would allow the enemy to learn military plans.

In the post-war period, the post office underwent qualitative changes. Its services became more diverse, the field of activity grew. Many businesses included post, telegraph and telephone.

Today, the responsibilities of postal departments include issuing pensions, paying utility bills, money transfers, and subscribing to various publications.

Given the role of the postal service for the state, in 1994 a decree was issued on the establishment of a professional holiday – the Day of Post.

Holiday traditions

This holiday is considered by all employees of the postal structure, regardless of position. These are postmen, warehouse workers, distribution centers, branch and transport workers.

Concerts and cultural events are organized for the heroes of the occasion. Not without a congratulatory word from the leadership. Traditionally, on the eve of the celebration, professional competitions are held among the divisions. Feasts with a trip to nature are also welcome on this day, because it is not in vain that the holiday is celebrated on a summer weekend.
