Port wine glass

A port wine glass has a shape similar to a Bordeaux glass, the difference is only in size. There is an opinion that large glasses are completely unsuitable for port wine, so 160 ml is considered the optimal volume for them.

In order to avoid excessive acidity and astringency, experts advise giving preference to glasses with a not very large roundness. The narrowed edges of the glass allow the port to be fully balanced so that you can feel the full fruity bouquet of this drink. Glasses for sherry or fortified wine are made in the same way, which allows the drink to open completely, but, unlike them, the port glass is less elongated.

An interesting fact: the port wine glass was designed by the famous Portuguese architect Alvaro Siza Vieira, commissioned by the Institute of Douro Wine and Port Wine.
