Pomelo is a citrus fruit with a thick skin and delicate white pulp that has a pleasant bitter taste. The color of ripe fruits can vary from yellow-pink to light green, and the diameter reaches 30 cm. The pomelo is appreciated for its original taste and the presence of a large amount of nutrients.
Composition and useful properties of pomelo
It contains a large amount of vitamins A and C, as well as vitamins of group B. Thanks to this, the pomelo increases the body’s resistance to various viruses. This fruit is also rich in minerals: phosphorus, sodium, calcium, iron and potassium. In addition, it contains useful organic acids, fiber and essential oils.
Nutritionists recommend regularly eating pomelo in food for those who seek to lose weight. This is due to the ability of this fruit to accelerate metabolic processes in the body, which contributes to the burning of body fat. In addition, pomelo helps prevent the development of tumors in the body and the formation of blood clots.
Choosing and eating pomelo
Malaysia is considered the homeland of this exotic fruit, but today the pomelo is grown in many countries of the world, where it is eaten as an independent product or used to prepare various dishes. Pomelo ripens on the tree of the same name in February, so it is best to buy them during this period. A ripe and tasty pomelo will have a smooth and shiny skin, a uniform color and a pleasant citrus aroma.
Unpeeled fruit can be stored at room temperature for a month, and peeled fruit is best consumed within two days.
Before eating, the pomelo must be peeled from a thick and tasteless peel. To do this, it is enough to make a small incision on the fruit, and then remove the peel with your hands. The cleaned pomelo must be divided into two halves, and then incisions are made in the membranes of each lobule to separate them. After that, the seeds should be removed from the slices, and then you can already try this exotic fruit.
Also, each slice can be cleaned from the film, but this is not for everybody.
