Polyphenols – what are their health properties? Where to get them?

Polyphenols are organic chemical compounds that exhibit intense antioxidant activity. Their natural source is the majority of edible plants, and their highest concentration is found in the peel of the fruit. Usually, they are divided into three groups of organic compounds: flavonoids, phenolic acids and phenolic compounds.

Polyphenols – flavonoids (bioflavonoids)

Flavonoids, also known as bioflawonoidsform a very extensive group of chemical compounds of natural origin. As majority polyphenols they are mainly found in fruits and other plants. Flavonoids They play many different roles: they protect against harmful insects and fungi and they are dyes (they are responsible for the colors of plant tissues) and antioxidants. The most important of them are:

  1. anthocyanidins – occur mainly in plants with a color from pink to dark purple, navy blue. It is said that they play a protective role in the body,
  2. isoflavones – are found, among others in legumes and soybeans, regulate the hormonal background and prevent the secretion of sebum,
  3. flavonols – have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, they can be found, among others in dark grapes, hawthorn, onions, walnuts or red wine,
  4. catechins – from the group of flavanols, they are found in tea, cocoa, fruits and vegetables (especially in fruit peels), have antibacterial, antioxidant, antiviral, cancer-preventing, anti-inflammatory, antifungal and anticoagulant properties,
  5. flavanones – lower cholesterol, have antiatherosclerotic properties, protect the skin, prevent ulcers, and relax. Their highest concentration can be found in citrus,
  6. bioflavonoids – have many health benefits. They support the functions of the immune system (therefore it is recommended to drink infusions of, for example, elderberry in colds), have antioxidant properties and regulate cholesterol levels. In addition, flavonoids have a diuretic effect and seal blood vessels, prevent the formation of varicose veins and atherosclerosis. Try Vitamin C 1000 with Vivoforte bioflavonoids, which combines the scientifically proven effects of vitamin C and bioflavonoids.

Antioxidant compounds can be supplied to the body through dietary supplements. We recommend the Flavonoid Complex – the YANGO dietary supplement. The Medonet Market also offers green tea extract – a dietary supplement that neutralizes free radicals. You can also order the Formula VM 75 multivitamin with mineral chelates and flavonoids.

Polyphenols: phenolic compounds

The most extensive group of naturally occurring polyphenols are phenolic compounds. We will find them first of all in the leaves, seeds, stems, fruits, bark, flower tissues and other stringy or woody parts of plants. Experts talk about their anti-cancer properties by inhibiting the activity of enzymes involved in the neovascularization process (the production of the cancer’s own blood vessels, which prevents it from spreading). Phenolic compounds they are also associated with the secretion of estrogens in female organisms, they prevent infections, and have antiallergic properties. Polyphenols – phenolic compounds They are also characterized by choleretic, anti-ulcer and liver-supporting properties.

You can find polyphenols in Magnolia Bark – 10% Magnolol – a YANGO dietary supplement available on Medonet Market in packages of 60 capsules.

Polyphenols – phenolic acids

More representatives of the group polyphenols to phenolic acids, also known as phenolic acids or phenyl carboxylic acids.

We divide them into:

  1. monohydroxybenzoic acids,
  2. dihydroxybenzoic acids (e.g. protocatechic acid in wheat grain and gentisic acid in mustard),
  3. trihydroxybenzoic acids (gallic acid, floroglucinic acid).

That group polyphenols primarily ingredients of tannins – chemical compounds widely used in medicine. Phenolic acids are found in many species of plants. Their significant amounts can be found in dried fruits. Tannins are known for their anti-inflammatory, astringent, anti-swelling and anti-bleeding properties. Like all of them polyphenols they also have a strong antioxidant effect.

You will find polyphenols, among others in Organic Sour Beet Juice. Buy it now on Medonet Market and try it out.
