Polyester fabric: photo, characteristic and density of synthetic fabric

Thanks to its practicality and other performance characteristics, polyester fabric has gained great popularity among artificial textiles. This material is used to make clothing and household items.

Description and photo of polyester

For the manufacture of polyester, synthetic fibers obtained from the processing of petroleum products are used. To give additional properties and a variety of appearance, particles of natural materials are added to the threads.

The photo shows how bright the color of the polyester fabric is.

The choice of impurities depends on the purpose of the fabric:

  • linen, wool and other natural fibers allow the material to breathe. Such textiles are used for sewing clothes;
  • elastane and polyamide promote a snug fit and enhance abrasion resistance – ideal for upholstery;
  • lycra, bamboo, cotton improve aesthetic performance. A material with similar additives is suitable for creating curtains, bedding and other home textiles.

The appearance of the finished fabric can resemble wool, silk or cotton.

Polyester fabric characteristics

Polyester has many positive properties:

  • resistance to stretching, abrasion, low temperature, getting wet, etc.;
  • easy to wash and not wrinkle;
  • has protection against pests and mold;
  • does not absorb foreign odors;
  • high density polyester fabric makes it easy to process parts;
  • light weight.

Polyester threads are dyed during production, so the finished material does not fade even under the influence of direct sunlight. This is an important quality especially for home decor items.

In addition to the advantages, the fabric also has disadvantages:

  • accumulates static electricity;
  • collapses when interacting with chemical bleaches;
  • Polyester clothing is poorly breathable, which is uncomfortable in hot weather.

When heated above 40 ° C, the fabric retains the resulting shape. This property can be considered both a plus and a minus.

Polyester synthetic fabric requires special care

To prevent clothing or interior items from deforming during washing, select the delicate cycle or hand wash. Before loading into the machine, you must turn things inside out. Iron the fabric at the lowest iron temperature.

Although polyester is a man-made material, it has many benefits that have made it popular with consumers.
