Polprazol Max – a medicine for heartburn

The most important information you should know before taking Polprazol Max

What is Polprazol Max?

Polprazol Max is a drug for gastric hyperacidity and heartburn available in pharmacies without a prescription. It is in the form of hard gastro-resistant capsules – taken orally, and absorbed in the intestines. Each capsule contains 20 mg of the active ingredient of Polprazol Max – omeprazole. Packages of 14 are available for sale.

How does Polprazol Max work?

The omeprazole contained in the drug belongs to the group of the so-called proton pump inhibitors. After ingestion, the drug in the stomach passes into the secretory tubules of the parietal cells of the stomach where it is activated to its active form. The proton pump is called H + / K + ATPase. Its inhibition reduces gastric acid secretion, and thus reduces the gastric hyperacidity. This is why omeprazole is a typical drug for the successful treatment of heartburn, which is a common symptom of gastric hyperacidity and gastroesophageal reflux (where acid from the stomach flows back into the esophagus).

The drug is usually taken on an empty stomach, one hour before breakfast, although it can also be taken on an ad hoc basis.

What are the contraindications to the use of Polprazol Max?

An absolute contraindication to use is hypersensitivity to omeprazole or any of the auxiliary ingredients of Polprazol Max (it should be noted here that it contains, among others, sucrose).

Due to an interaction, the drug must not be used with the drug nelfinavir. Omeprazole may also interact with other medications, so before taking it, always inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, and read the package leaflets carefully to make sure that they do not interact with each other.

Side effects and precautions after taking Polprazol Max

The drug Polprazol Max is relatively safe, its use is allowed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, it may have an impact on psychomotor performance, i.e. driving and operating machinery. Common side effects include headache and digestive discomfort.

Taking omeprazole may, to a small extent, increase the risk of gastrointestinal infections with Salmonella and Campylobacter due to the lower acidity in the stomach (hydrochloric acid is bactericidal).

When taking Polprazole Max for a longer period (over 3 months), there is a risk of a strong decrease in the level of magnesium (i.e. hypomagnesaemia). Occasionally, cutaneous lupus erythematosus may also develop after omeprazole ingestion.
