Heartburn and reflux – characteristics of symptoms
Heartburn manifests itself as an unpleasant and often painful burning sensation in the esophagus and a sour taste in the mouth. Such ailments may appear mainly after a heavy meal and after eating certain products.
On the other hand, gastroesophageal reflux disease is one of the common symptoms of which is heartburn. Reflux may be associated with esophageal insufficiency or the malfunction of the esophageal sphincter.

Polprazole is one of the drugs used in the treatment of ulcer diseases. Perfectly reduces symptoms of reflux and heartburn. It also reduces the acidity of gastric juice. After a single use of the drug, limited acid secretion is maintained throughout the day and night.
Polprazole – drug composition
Polprazole is a medicine that contains omeprazole. It belongs to the group of proton pump inhibitors. This preparation – available in capsules – strongly and long-lastingly inhibits the production of gastric juice and hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Additionally, it supports the action of antibiotics used in Helicobacter pylori infections. The drug coating is sucrose.
The indications for the use of Polprazole are such diseases as:
1. duodenal and stomach ulcers;
2. gastroesophageal reflux, the symptom of which is, inter alia, heartburn, reflux oesophagitis;
3. treatment of functional dyspepsia;
4. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome;
5. prevention of stomach ulcers;
6. eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with gastric and duodenal ulcers.
Polprazole is indicated for use by adults. However, this medicine can be dosed to children from 1 year of age weighing at least 10 kg for the symptomatic treatment of heartburn and regurgitation in gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and also for the treatment of reflux oesophagitis.
In addition, Polprazole can be used in children over 4 years of age in the case of combined treatment with antibiotics in duodenal ulcer caused by pylori.
Polprazol – contraindications to the use of the drug
Like many drugs, Polprazol has some contraindications. These include:
1.allergic to any component of the drug,
2.pregnancy and breastfeeding,
3. taking an antiviral drug with nelfinavir.
The drug is taken orally, in accordance with the dose previously determined by the doctor. The capsules are swallowed whole, although the contents may occasionally be poured out and taken as is.
It is best to take Polprazole before eating.
In order for the treatment to be effective and bring the expected results, you should follow strict medical recommendations. Taking Polprazol in a different way than prescribed by the doctor may result in serious health problems. It can also be life-threatening. If you forget to take one dose of Polprazole, take the tablet as soon as you remember.
Polprazol – side effects of use
The main side effects of using Polprazole include:
- nausea;
- vomiting;
- diarrhea;
- constipation;
- flatulence;
- indigestion;
- balance disorders;
- allergic reactions (itching, rash);
- gastrointestinal yeast infection;
- feeling of dry mouth;
- interstitial nephritis;
- decrease in sodium and / or magnesium in the body;
- peripheral edema;
- paresthesia;
- sleepiness / insomnia;
- increased levels of liver enzymes.
Using Polprazole with other drugs
Before starting the dose of Polprazole, first of all, inform the doctor about all the drugs used, because the preparation may inhibit their effect. Polprazole should absolutely not be used in combination with nelfinavir, which is an antiviral drug. In addition, caution should be exercised when dosing Polprazole together with:
- digoxin;
- warfarin;
- diazepam;
- cliostazol;
- sakwinavirem;
- clopidogrel.
Polprazol – pregnancy and breastfeeding
You should not start the treatment with Polprazol on your own, not only in the case of pregnant women and nursing mothers, but all patients. The dosage of the drug depends on the patient’s health. Several tests have confirmed that omeprazole (the active ingredient) can pass into breast milk.
The most common side effects of using Polprazole, as mentioned, are headaches and dizziness, as well as vision problems. If the patient notices the above symptoms, driving the car as a driver is not recommended.
