Polocard is an over-the-counter drug with acetylsalicylic acid, intended for prophylactic use by people exposed to dangerous circulatory events. The active substance contained in Polocard tablets reduces the clumping of platelets, thus reducing the risk of blood clots. When using the drug, follow the recommended dosage, pay attention to possible interactions with other medicinal products, contraindications and side effects.

Polocard – what is this drug?

Polocard are enteric-coated tablets that are delivered to the body acetylsalicylic acid, an active substance that, in low doses, stops the clumping of thrombocytes and minimizes the likelihood of blood clots. The product can be used by adults and adolescents over 16 years of age. There are Polocard tablets on the market in a dose of 75 mg and 150 mg of acetylsalicylic acid.

Polocard – indications for use

The main indication to reach for Polocard is prophylaxis of diseases accompanied by the formation of blood clots in the blood vesselsand also cardiovascular diseases such as a heart attack or ischemic heart disease (stable or unstable). Polocard – composition

The main component of Polocard is the active substance – acetylsalicylic acid. Additionally, the preparation includes the following active substances:

  1. cellulose;
  2. corn starch;
  3. sodium bicarbonate;
  4. hypromeloza;
  5. sodium carboxymethyl starch;
  6. methacrylic acid copolymer;
  7. talk;
  8. triethyl citrate;
  9. titanium dioxide (E 171);
  10. lak (E 124);
  11. sodium lauryl sulfate;
  12. cochineal red;
  13. colloidal anhydrous silica.
Attention

Hypersensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid affects approx. 0,3 percent. population, and in the case of chronic urticaria or bronchial asthma, it occurs even in every 5 people.

Polocard – tablet appearance

Polocard tablets are pink in color, they are round and biconvex with a slightly rough surface. The size of the tablets depends on the type of product selected – the Polocard 75 mg tablet is 6 mm in diameter, while the Polocard 150 mg tablet is 8 mm in diameter.

Polocard – contraindications

Taking Polocard is not always recommended. The main contraindications to the use of the preparation are:

  1. allergy to acetylsalicylic acid – in people with hypersensitivity, hives or even shock may occur within three hours of taking the drug;
  2. allergy to any component of the drug;
  3. allergy to other agents from the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs);
  4. conditions such as bronchial asthma, hay fever, swelling of the nasal mucosa or chronic diseases affecting the respiratory system;
  5. last trimester of pregnancy;
  6. age under 16;
  7. gout;
  8. severe heart, liver or kidney failure;
  9. clotting problems (e.g. thrombocytopenia);
  10. use of anticoagulants;
  11. gastric and duodenal ulcers, as well as bleeding and inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract;
  12. glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency;
  13. taking methotrexate when the dose is 15 mg per week or more.

Polocard – precautions

In addition to absolute contraindications to the use of Polocard, pay attention to the information on the recommended precautions contained in the product leaflet. The preparation may also turn out to be inadvisable in other situations. Therefore, you should consult your doctor before reaching for Polocard in the following cases:

  1. breast-feeding;
  2. the first and second trimesters of pregnancy;
  3. systemic lupus, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, liver dysfunction;
  4. the occurrence of bleeding (excessive bleeding during menstruation, uterine haemorrhage); use of an intrauterine contraceptive device;
  5. arterial hypertension, heart failure;
  6. kidney problems (including kidney failure);
  7. scheduled surgery – Polocard may prolong bleeding time, so it should be discontinued 5-7 days before surgery;
  8. taking anti-diabetic drugs (sulfonurea);
  9. use of drugs with methotrexate (in any doses).

Additionally, caution is required in the case of dehydrated people or people with allergies. Some people are at risk of developing asthma attacks or bronchospasms. Can Polocard be used with other drugs?

The ability to take Polocard with other medications is limited because it is contained in it Acetylsalicylic acid may interact with some of them. Polocard should not be used with blood clotting drugs such as heparin and coumarin derivatives, as well as with weekly methotrexate doses of 15 mg or more.

In the case of some medicinal and food products, taking them simultaneously with Polocard is possible only after prior consultation with a doctor.. This applies, inter alia, to NSAIDs (especially other salicylates), diuretics, valproic acid, glucocorticosteroids, digoxin, thrombolytic drugs, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors and others – they are listed in the manufacturer’s leaflet, which should be read before using the drug. Polocard – dosage

The use of Polocard tablets should be carried out in accordance with the description contained in the leaflet or according to the doctor’s instructions. The tablets should be taken orally, preferably with or after a meal with water. It is recommended to take 1-2 tablets of 75 mg within XNUMX hours or 1 tablet of 150 mg.

In order to reduce the risk of side effects, the patient should use the lowest effective dose of Polocard.

According to the information contained in the Polocard leaflet, in the event of a recent or suspected heart attack the effect of rapid inhibition of platelet aggregation (clumping) is achieved with a single dose (once a day) between 3 and 4 tablets of 75 mg of acetylsalicylic acid (i.e. 225 to 300 mg). Faster absorption ensures that the tablets are chewed before swallowing.

In the case of elderly people (over 65 years of age), special care should be taken when using the drug, administering lower doses and not conducting long-term treatment. This age group has a higher risk of side effects.

Polocard – side effects

The use of Polocard may be associated with the risk of side effects. Although side effects may not occur for everyone, some symptoms may occur as a result of taking acetylsalicylic acid. The rare side effects of the drug include, among others thrombocytopenia, cerebral hemorrhage, prolonged prothrombin time, inflammation of the intestinal mucosa and stomach, peptic ulcer disease or allergic reaction. There is a very rare risk of anaphylactic shock, perforation of gastric ulcer or duodenal ulcer.
