Baldness is a serious mental problem for men because it is a sign of aging. Poles who lose their hair often decide to undergo a transplant in Turkey, because it is much cheaper there. Which doesn’t mean it’s safe.
- – I know a patient who after the surgery in Turkey had a completely damaged front hairline and it was difficult for him to fix the mistakes of his predecessor. We were limited by what had already been done. Moreover, it is not so that an infinite number of transplants can be done, this number is limited to two or three treatments. And each subsequent one is more difficult, it is performed in worse conditions – says Łukasz Buczek, a doctor of aesthetic medicine
- Hair transplant procedures performed in Turkey are cheaper. However, non-physicians can do them there
- There are plenty of hair transplant clinics in Turkey. They arise quickly and disappear quickly, which is why it is difficult to pursue your claims in the event of a failed surgery

When the search engine enters the search term “Turkey hair transplant” pops up over 16 thousand. results. Online forums are full of reports from people who have decided to transplant in this country and – tempted by the price of the procedure, attractive accommodation and the promise of comprehensive care – took advantage of the services of offices specializing in medical tourism mediation. Interestingly, these are mostly men for whom the problem of baldness is a serious problem, because it is a visible symptom of the first signs of aging.
Much more confident with lush hair
As Łukasz Buczek, an aesthetic medicine doctor who specializes in hair transplantation, explains, many men are already around 30 years of age. begins to notice that their hair is falling out and bends.
– Like women, we want to stay young and most of the gentlemen are not ready for these changes. Modern XNUMX-year-olds often do not have families yet, their lives are not yet in order, and hair loss means that a certain stage is over. That is why the possibility of recovering hair is so valuable – the doctor notes.

He also tells about his patient who started going bald and therefore felt like he was scalped by the Indians.
– And you need to know that in the Indian hierarchy, a person automatically scalped was treated worse by the tribe, as someone weak, someone who let himself be approached, let himself be defeated. My patient underwent a hair transplant, now has a thick head of hair and feels much more confident. He does not feel stigmatized, he has regained his masculinity – he emphasizes.
In Turkey, these procedures are not performed by doctors
Depending on the method of transplantation used and the area in which the procedure is performed, in Poland you have to pay an average of PLN 15 to 20 for hair transplantation. zloty. In Turkey, the costs are much lower and averaged around 10. zloty.
– Treatments performed in Turkey are of course cheaper. And they are cheaper due to the fact that in Turkey these procedures are often not performed by doctors. In Poland, it is always done by a doctor. Sanitary conditions may not meet the requirements of our country. There is also a question: what if the results of the treatment are not satisfactory? How will the patient make his claims? It will be rather difficult to achieve, the more so that Turkey does not belong to the European Union – explains Łukasz Buczek.

Quantity, not quality
Trichologist Marta Węcławska explains that it may be a risky undertaking, because the patient covers a distance of several thousand. km is exposed to many dangers.
– There is no certainty that the equipment used during the procedure was sterile or that the instruments were disposable. Due to the distance, it is also difficult to take advantage of the post-treatment consultation. I have the impression that Turkish hair transplant procedures are more focused on quantity, not quality, which carries the risk of not fully performed surgery – emphasizes Węcławska.
And the drug. Łukasz Buczek adds: – It’s worth knowing that there are many transplant clinics there, they are established quickly, but also disappear quickly. Certainly there are clinics that perform these procedures very well, but the patient does not know who he will get, whether he will be lucky or unlucky.
It’s hard to fix the errors of the predecessor
A doctor from Wrocław, who has already completed several hundred hair transplant treatments, says that he looked after a patient who had a completely damaged front hairline after the surgery in Turkey.
– It was difficult for him to fix the mistakes of his predecessor. We were limited by what had already been done. Moreover, it is not so that an infinite number of transplants can be done, this number is limited to two or three treatments. And each subsequent one is more difficult, it is performed in worse conditions, because there is much less hair on the back of the head, and adhesions on the scalp are also disturbing. Besides, the arrangement of the hair inside the skin is not as certain as it was before the first treatment – explains Buczek.

Hair transplantation is a very complicated procedure
Because hair transplantation using the FUE method – currently the most popular – is a very complicated procedure. FUE stands for Follicular Unit Excision and first involves collecting individual hair follicles, i.e. grafts.
In the second part of the procedure, the doctor – with the use of a specially constructed tool that allows the graft to be implanted at the desired angle and in the right direction – implants previously collected hair follicles. The doctor decides about choosing the correct angle and direction, which is very important in transplantation, otherwise the hair will not grow and arrange naturally after the procedure.
Mycoses and purulent inflammation of the hair follicle
Łukasz Buczek draws attention to another aspect of hair transplants in Turkey, and it concerns air flights.
– I personally warn my patients after transplantation that flights for a minimum of one week are not recommended. Firstly, because of changes in pressure, secondly, because of the air conditioning, and thirdly, because of the prolonged assumption of a forced, sitting position of the body. In addition, it is not possible to moisturize the scalp with saline in an airplane, which in my experience is very important. It is hard to imagine that a patient would even board an airplane with a sprayer, let alone use it, the doctor explains.
And Marta Węcławska says that in her trichology practice she met with a few cases of very young patients who decided to go to Turkey and perform a hair transplant there.
– There were many indications that they were infected there with diseases of the scalp, such as mycoses or purulent inflammation of the hair follicle. One of the patients did not realize for a long time that there was something wrong with him, because he had not looked at the back of his head and did not see the changes that had spread.
Safe alternative
Łukasz Buczek advises against treatments in Turkey and lists many reasons.
– There is no quality guarantee. It is also uncertain whether the site where the transplant was performed will still exist at all. There is also the question of whether the team performing the procedure will speak English? After the transplant, the scalp must be properly cared for and adhered to medical recommendations. I myself dealt with patients who, at the end of the procedure performed by the Turkish team, were only told “thank you, goodbye” – she warns.
And Marta Węcławska adds at the end: – It is possible to find a good hair transplant clinic in Poland. Our doctors have extensive experience in this type of treatment, offer the most modern methods that are not painful, do not leave scars and have a short recovery period. The main reason why men decide to perform the procedure in Turkey is the price, often much lower than in Poland. Remember, however, that performing the procedure in a Polish clinic by an experienced specialist is a much safer option.
