Polish genetic tests for each cancer

After several years of work in Poland, a test examining the predisposition to the development of many different cancers is now available: cancer panel 172 Plus – it was announced at a press conference in Warsaw.

The test for publicly available diagnostics of genetic predisposition to all cancers was developed by the DNA Research Center and Medgenetix in cooperation with doctors and scientists from all over Poland.

The test analyzes over 170 clinically important genes and over 10 genetic mutations that affect neoplastic processes. It includes screening tests of over 000 thousand. exons contained in 1,7 genes known to play an important role in the development of cancers, both the most common and the rare. In addition, the panel includes an analysis of genes associated with the development of glaucoma, Parkinson’s disease and coronary artery disease.

The patient will receive guidance on how to reduce the risk of cancer. The tests are available from today – said Jacek Wojciechowicz, president of the DNA Research Center, co-creator of the project. For our research, we used a breakthrough technology, next-generation sequencing that analyzes hundreds of genes at the same time. A huge advantage is the short waiting time for test results and very low costs – added the head of the DNA Research Center.

Low costs should be understood as an amount from PLN 2900 to PLN 3500, which will not be reimbursed for the time being. It is possible to test for the risk of only cancers typical of men or women (cheaper option) or all (more expensive).

The test is especially important for those who have undergone therapy and want to find out if their disease is genetic, and for family members of cancer sufferers. They will be able to see if they inherit cancer. Thanks to the tests, it will be possible to use preventive measures in people who will benefit most from it, and those who have fallen ill can be treated more radically.

Early neoplastic diseases, preferably in the early stages, are more than 90% effective in the fight against cancer. Thanks to genetic diagnostics, mortality will decrease significantly – said Dr. of medical sciences Tomasz Banasiewicz from the Department of General Surgery, Surgery, Gastroenterological Oncology and Plastic Surgery at the Medical University of Poznań. Our previous experience related to tests in the fight against bowel cancer – we were the first in the world – allowed us to prepare a research panel that is groundbreaking in the fight against cancer – added Dr. Banasiewicz.

According to the creators of the test, its widespread use should minimize the risk of cancer and can save billions in savings for the budget. Early tumor foci can be effectively treated, and the use of tests will reduce the need for expensive invasive tests. Of great importance is the fact that the test material can be downloaded at home, which should facilitate and popularize early diagnosis. By analyzing the results obtained, it will also be possible to better adapt the treatment methods to a specific patient.

You can get the material for the test yourself at home. To undergo the examination, it is enough to take the material: oral swab or blood and deliver it to the DNA Research Center or visit us in person. After receiving the result, it is recommended to consult a specialist in the field of oncology and genetics, who will implement appropriate prophylaxis. (PAP)
