During this year’s Fourth World Congress of Dermoscopy, which took place in Vienna on April 16-18, several dozen teams of specialists from around the world took part in the most prestigious competition in the field of dermoscopy – the Dermoscopy World Championship.
We are extremely proud of the victory. We defeated 30 teams of outstanding dermatologists from around the world, recognizing a dozen or so skin lesions after discovering the first, out of 9 puzzle pieces. We sincerely hope that both the time and effectiveness of skin cancer diagnosis will change in Poland to the benefit of the patient, comments Dr. Grażyna Kamińska-Winciorek, captain of the winning team of dermatologists.
During the competition, the teams were presented with dermoscopic changes presented in the form of puzzles. Each image of the skin lesion consisted of 9 puzzle pieces. Gradually discovered, one by one, with a frequency of seconds, they waited for the fastest possible recognition before the picture of the change was complete. The Polish team, led by Dr. Grażyna Kamińska-Winciorek, was composed of: Dr. Monika Słowińska, Dr. Hab. med. Elżbieta Kowalska-Olędzka and lek. Paweł Pilat. Dermatologists were second to none and were the first to score the required number of points, guessing most of the diagnoses after a second.
The victory of Polish dermatologists proves that we have the best specialists in the country. From year to year, we note an increase in the number of cases of melanoma and other skin cancers, and early diagnosis of the disease is up to 90%. chances of a complete recovery. Effective and quick diagnosis is therefore crucial for the success of further treatment – comments Prof. Piotr Rutkowski, head of the Department of Tumors of Soft Tissues, Bones and Czerniakow at the Institute of Oncology Center in Warsaw.
