The Omikron variant and the alert package of restrictions in Poland
Last week we heard about a new variant of the coronavirus. It was considered “disturbing”, and due to the largest number of mutations to date (50, including 32 at a key point in the spike protein), it was labeled a “superwariant”. The world reacted to him very quickly, incl. stricter entry rules, new restrictions. Poland also reacted.
From December 1 to December 17, an alert package of restrictions will apply in our country, including a ban on flights from seven African countries, smaller limits in shops, cultural institutions, churches, hotels, restaurants and weddings. Commenting on the decision on the alert package of restrictions, Dr. Konstanty Szułdrzyński from the Medical Council at the Prime Minister assessed in PAP that “these are not restrictions that meet the needs, but are politically feasible” and are rather “cosmetic”. MedTvoiLokony probe. Poles do not want further restrictions, but there is a “but”
At the beginning, we would like to remind you that our poll is not a professional public opinion poll and should not be treated as such. Nevertheless, the attitude of Poles to introduce further restrictions, which was revealed by our poll, is very interesting, although actually not very optimistic. 22 thousand people took part in the survey, which lasted from 29 to 19 November. 770 people.
To the most important question of this survey: “should further restrictions be introduced in connection with the growing fourth wave of COVID-19 in Poland?”, 51 percent. the voters replied in the negative. Interestingly, as much as 48 percent. decided that restrictions should be introduced. It is clear how much the Poles are divided on this issue, and it can also be seen in the subsequent responses.
Among people who, however, would like to introduce greater restrictions, 27 percent. believes that they should apply where the epidemic situation is the most difficult, 25 percent – that all over Poland. Who should be restricted? 38 percent believe that only the vaccinated, 14 percent. – of all. 48 percent thinks no one.

Subsequent questions from the probe also highlighted the deep division among Poles regarding pandemic restrictions. For 54 percent corresponding epidemic restrictions are a form of restriction of freedom. 43 percent believes that this is not the case. 2 percent had no opinion on this matter.

The penalties for non-compliance with the restrictions are sufficient for 40 percent. respondents are too mild for 36 percent. As many as 23 percent are undecided in this regard.
